INFOhio Curriculum Toolbox's curator insight, July 21, 3:17 PM

Creating an environment of inquiry in a classroom requires skill, practice and encouragement. First and foremost teachers must understand and believe in the value of inquiry across all subject areas and be comfortable with the inquiry process. This process can be best taught by the school library media specialist in collaboration with the content area teacher so that the inquiry skills are learned in concert with the content. The IMatrix is designed to give teachers and media specialists easy access to resources which not only help explain inquiry, but also help teach inquiry skills to students.

The six Dimensions of Inquiry were created through an environmental scan of various information inquiry models. From these models, the Dimensions of Inquiry were synthesized. The dimensions sometimes overlap or may cycle back to a previous dimension when a different direction is needed. Which of the Dimensions would you like to explore?

In 2013/14, I only used novels in English class and even then only to provide time away from a screen.  Every other class and activity used digital resources and engaged technology to find, sort, contextualize, and share information.   This is a very interesting infographic.

Dyana Mason's curator insight, June 23, 11:06 PM

Digital devices are re-shaping the classroom. I've seen some new tools in action.  As educators, we should learn how students are using these new tools and adjust our teaching appropriately.

Dian J Harrison, MSW's curator insight, July 8, 8:09 PM

This definitely speaks to the support that older students will need to be successful in online programs!  For some of these students, the technology learning curve will be steep but doable....... especially if they are used to reading a book in print!

How to create a Google Drive classroom

How to create a Google Drive classroom | Affordable Learning | Scoop.it

Using the cloud in the classroom can be a powerful thing.

One of the most common uses of the cloud in today’s classroom is word processing, and one of the most common cloud-based word processing platforms is Google Drive.

We’ve talked about offering voice feedback to documents. In the above below, teacher Bjorn Behrendt explains how to set up a classroom in Google Drive. He offers dozens of tips to pre-empt the kind of challenges that you’re likely to see (e.g., students unknowingly duplicating the same file several times, not knowing which folder to turn work in to, etc.)

Since he clearly has experience in the classroom, this video is immediately better than the vast majority of universal Google Drive tutorials you’ll find.
