6 Tips for Optimizing Your Content for the Latest Trends in Consumption | Content Marketing Institute

6 Tips for Optimizing Your Content for the Latest Trends in Consumption | Content Marketing Institute | Affiliate Marketing & Content Curation | Scoop.it

Excerpted from the article:

During the past six months there have been some major changes in the way audiences consume information. These changes are happening simultaneously on two fronts, one in the form of content curation and the other in content shifting.

While content curation is nothing new, the rise in the use of mobile devices is changing when, where, and how we read internet content.

Content shifting:

Mobile devices are allowing people to break free from the computer desk and shift both the physical environment and the time in which they read or consume content.

This content shifting can be as simple as using tools like Evernote’s Clearly on a web browser.

Apps such as Pocket and Instapaper allow us to save articles discovered on a desktop computer to read later on any internet-connected device.

Sifting through the glut of information:

Many social media platforms have taken on the role of content curators, developing algorithms in an attempt to help us weed out the information we don’t want and present us with the information we do. This has been evidenced through a variety of changes in the Facebook Timeline, the #Discover tab on Twitter, and social search results in Google.

The latest wave of content shifting applications also curate and reformat articles to gear them toward our personal interests, fundamentally changing the reading experience as they do so. Programs such as Flipboard and Zite gather content from RSS feeds, Twitter, and Facebook streams and present it in a mobile-friendly magazine format.

Tips to optimize for content shifting and content curation:

1. Incorporate calls to action directly into the text...

2. Optimize for mobile...

3. Capitalize on compelling images...

4. Write strong headlines, lead paragraphs, and meta descriptions...

5. Maximize social media sharing...

6. Publish and promote quality content...

Each element and tip is analyzed with more information. Read full article here: http://j.mp/LmZpjT

Even though there are many methods to reach out and connect with your ideal clients, partners, and prospects, don’t invite everyone. You’re limited to 3,000 invitations in total. If you ask, LinkedIn might give you more, but they’ll look at your history and refuse if you have too many people who’ve said they don’t know you. To solve this, you’ll need the email addresses of your invitees when trying to connect with anyone else.

Do flaws in our monetary system consistently cause financial crises?

So far, critical questions concerning our monetary system and the financial crisis have not received sufficient exposure.

Robin Good's insight:

Few people know that it is actually possible to curate Wikipedia content into custom print books or PDF / OpenDocument ebooks that contain exactly the content you want in the order you specify.

Once you are logged into Wikipedia you simply activate the Book Creator Tool and then, from that moment on, everytime you visit a Wikipedia page you can click and add it to your curated Wiki-Book.

There is also a dedicated wiki page where you can manage the pages you have collected and you can reorganized and sort them any way you want, eliminating the pages you don't need.

Unfortunately there is no integrated way to edit and further customize the content of those pages for your own use.

PDF versions are freely downloadable by anyone, print book versions are paid.

N.B.: The price for print books depends on the number of pages, starting with US$ 7.90 for books up to 100 pages. 10% of the gross sales price goes to the Wikimedia Foundation. Books are perfect bound, printed in the dimensions 8.5 inch x 5.5 inch (216 mm x 140 mm) and contain a table of contents, your chapters and articles, licensing information next to an index.

Web Copy
Writing web copy that wins hearts and minds is easier and harder than you think. Easier because tiny changes make huge differences in customer engagement and your website's ability to convert. Harder because learning to slow down and think about things like empathy, using OPW (Other People's Words) and the right way to use acronyms takes practice, discipline and courage.

Here are the tips we share on Curagami:

Use OPW (Other People’s Words) – Trusted sources or industry gurus make excellent sourcesUse Customer Words – Customers know you listen when they see features of User Generated Content (UGC)Touch the Universal – R&D is hard, takes time and money is a “universal truth.”Cliches – Cliches are another “truth” you can turn in your favorEmpathy Words – Use words that create a sense of empathy between YOU and whoever is reading your copy words such as “collaborate,” “teamed with” and “love.”Acronyms – Acronyms can convey industry knowledge, but be sure to explain fully the first time you use an acronym

Sam Burroughs says it right: "What if we considered content curation from a user centered design perspective? What would audience centered curation look like?"

His suggestions are right on the mark:

  • Stop thinking you need to post always something. If you haven't got something good, don't.

  • Focus on a very specific interest and audience.

  • Evaluate and share your opinion.

  • Let readers know how much time it takes to read the source you are suggesting to check.

  • Explain, always clearly why something you are curating is relevant. Contextualize.

More signal, less noise.

A good review of five things you need to pay attention to, for your content curation to generate some results.

Right on the mark. Practical advice. 8/10
