Boeing warns of ice risks for GE-powered Dreamliners in storms

Boeing warns of ice risks for GE-powered Dreamliners in storms | Aerospace Engineer | Scoop.it
Boeing told airlines that some Dreamliners with General Electric engines must bypass thunderstorms as a precautionary measure, the latest advisory on the 787 that was grounded globally earlier this year.
Cordell's insight:

With Boeings new GEnx engines; which started with the Dreamliners, are having problems flying them in storms due to engines freezing. They started using GEnx engines for 787 and  747-8 but soon grounded the 787 globally due to the new electric engines freezing in thunderstorms. Since April there has been six cases with GEnx engines temporarily losing thrusts in high altitudes which causes the engine to freeze up. Five out of the six where 747-8 and the other one was the 787. Fairfield company is working on software modifications to eliminate the problem.

Loss of Boeing 777X could hit state’s credit rating

Loss of Boeing 777X could hit state’s credit rating | Aerospace Engineer | Scoop.it
Cordell's insight:

With Washington losing Boeing 777X will raise prices by a couple hundred million dollars for building roads and bridges in Washington. If Boeing decides to build the jet somewhere else, most likely the state's credit ranking will downgrade. With that happening it will increase the cost of borrowing funds for infustructer projects. If the 777X is decided to be built elsewhere it will cause a credit negative in the state of Washington. What the credit downgrade it will raise the cost of capital by a several hundred million dollars.
