Arizona State and edX Will Offer an Online Freshman Year, Open to All – The Ticker - Blogs - The Chronicle of Higher Education | aect | Scoop.it
Arizona State University is joining with the MOOC provider edX in a project that it says “reimagines the freshman year” and opens a new low-cost, low-risk path to a college degree for students anywhere in the world.
Tim Boileau's insight:

Based on our collective experience with FYE and UC, I think there is a small percentage of freshmen with the discipline to be successful by completing all of their gen ed classes in a MOOC learning space. On the other hand, as virtual instruction continues to proliferate in the K-12 space, I believe that we need to be open to a new paradigm for delivering general education content.

Tim Boileau's insight:

"Experiential learning was the first form of learning through which our ancient ancestors discovered and made sense of the wild world around them. The antiquity of the concept is captured eloquently in several ancient adages. Confucius once said ”tell me and I forget; show me and I may remember, and involve me and I will understand”. Similarly, the revered Greek philosopher Aristotle was quoted saying “for the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them”.
