Why People Don't Want Your Financial Planning Service And It's Not Because They Don't Need You, Don't Trust You, Or Don't Believe You - See Beyond Numbers | Advisor Content Curation | Scoop.it
A study done by a pair of Canadian Psychologists uncovered something fascinating about people at the racetrack. Just after placing a bet, they are much more confident of their horse’s chances of winning than they are immediatly before laying down that bet. Of course, nothing about the horse’s chances actually shifts: it’s the same horse, [...]

Grant Barger's insight:

Good advice from a doer... but it begs the question... what business is she in? Can she be an industry oracle and an advisor to her clients? You can't be all things to all people. What works for her will not necessarily translate into success for everyone. What is lacking in articles similar to this is the fact that she has built a foundation and clearly defined who she is... It is stated but not emphasized enough for other advisors to take advantage of her success. The missing link has always been differentiating tactical ideas and strategic tangible value.

A New Lighthouse Beckons The Financial Services Social Media Weary - The Huffington Post
Grant Barger's insight:
Interesting perspective. Still top down thinking. The digital footprint should be about the advisor foundation. The forms of communication that need to be used have to be controlled absolutely by the advisor...and social media obviously does not offer that type of control. There is a great opportunity for advisors to leverage social media...it is not, however, The same opportunity that is offered other professions.

Grant Barger's insight:

For my use... Antiquated processes for modern technology... 1. Prepare yourself for testimonials to become legal... 2. Certifications are pretty but they don't get to the soul of your practice like a Purpose Statement... 3. Don't write to hunt write to be read. The clients can see through this tactic and it doesn't bode well for you if your content doesn't match your Tangible Alpha.

How are eCommerce and website design linked | Articles | Knowledge Center | hibu | Advisor Content Curation | Scoop.it
The design of an eCommerce website is very important in achieving success in the marketplace.
Grant Barger's insight:

The three questions the advisor needs to ask when it comes to their digital footprint and website design... Does my site accurately convey my business foundation? (Purpose, Principles, Beliefs, Expectations, Experience, Expertise) Can people contact me immediately? Is my website in alignment with all of my social platforms? The antiquated theories that form the marketing concepts that most industry gurus accept as the norm are not in your best interest as a valued steward of wealth… Don’t  fall into the trap of industry hyperbole… define your foundation before you entertain any tactical concepts.

Advisors - Are You Social Yet? - Forbes

Advisors - Are You Social Yet? - Forbes | Advisor Content Curation | Scoop.it
Grant Barger's insight:
Using technology for the sake of technology is a risk that most advisors are not willing to take. Advisors need to understand first and foremost why they should be using Twitter or any other social platform. Keeping up with the Joneses is not a strategy that keeps you in business very long So today's stewards of wealth really need to understand how social media will impact their business model. Before any advisor jumps into social media it is my recommendation that they first understand the foundation of their business. #AdvisorDNA
