But a new survey commissioned by Nielsen unit Vizu indicates that three-quarters of advertisers are spending on paid social advertising and nearly two-thirds (64%) plan to increase their social ad budgets this year.

That’s welcome news to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others as they ramp up paid ad opportunities on their respective platforms. Still, social media budgets remain relatively small. Last year, the vast majority (70%) of companies earmarked 1% to 10% of overall ad spending to social media, with only 13% allotting 21% or more.

50% of Web Sales to Occur Via Social Media by 2015

50% of Web Sales to Occur Via Social Media by 2015 | Media Intelligence - Middle East and North Africa (MENA) | Scoop.it
A new infographic reveals social commerce sales are expected to bring in $30 billion each year by 2015, with 50% of web sales to occur through social media.
Ali Sajid's insight:

Although some brands over the years have been skeptical about how social media can bring in revenue, a new study reveals social commerce sales are expected to bring in $30 billion each year by 2015, with half of web sales to occur through social media.

According to the data, Facebook drives 26% of referral traffic to business websites and those numbers are only expected to increase. About 20% of shoppers already prefer buying products through a brand's Facebook page compared to its website.

Although Facebook users still use the platform largely for personal use, one in three businesses embrace it to reach out to consumers. Nearly 10 million registered small businesses have a Facebook presence, and 89% of agencies use the social network to advertise for their business clients.

Fans who follow brands on Facebook are also more likely to purchase items from the company than non-fans. With that in mind, about 89% of small businesses believe Facebook is a valuable marketing tool for their brand.

Facebook Pages Only Reach 17% Of Fans | Media Intelligence - Middle East and North Africa (MENA) | Scoop.it
To optimize for GraphRank and get your posts to show up in your fans' news feed, you have to get more likes and comments every time you post.
Ali Sajid's insight:

For the average page, that’s just one out of six fans you’re reaching. Five out of six of your fans aren’t seeing you at all.

Your page is worth 83 percent less than what you think if, like many business owners or brand executives, you’re only looking at your total fan base count.

And whatever you spent to acquire your average fan, multiply that by six, because five out of six of your fans aren’t seeing your posts.

More than 500 million users have upgraded to Google+ accounts, while 235 million are actively using Google+ features (like +1′ing apps, or following friends in Google Search

135 million users are active in the  Google+ stream proper, the service’s equivalent of Facebook’s news feed. The numbers show significant growth from June, when Google+ only had 250 million total accounts and 150 million monthly active users.

While far from Facebook’s 1 billion monthly active users, the growth shows that Google+ isn’t something to be ignored. Even if you don’t use the service as a true Facebook replacement, it’s becoming increasingly complementary to Google’s other services.
