Socialbakers has released an infographic revealing Facebook penetration rates across the world. The infographic reveals that the United States, Canada, and Australia are among the top countries in terms of penetration percentage, with penetration rates at 50% or above. The infographic also reveals that Egypt has a penetration rate of 12%, or 10 million users.

It is not often I get to infuse a former 80's pop star's name in one of my columns but Rick Springfield - who in addition to trying to woo "Jessie's Girl", warned us to "Don't Talk to Strangers." Well it would appear that a sizable chunk of online consumers...

32% of online consumers trust a stranger's opinion on public forums or blogs more than they trust branded advertisements and marketing collateral.

 

95% (of marketers) believe visual content is very important for online marketing.

 

89% are already using or plan to use visual content in social media.

 

87% believe visual content is critical for traditional marketing.

 

80% plan to budget for production of visual content in 2013.

 

96.7% believe that visual content engages best on social media

Social media and social networking are no longer in their infancy. Social media continues to grow rapidly, offering global consumers new and meaningful ways to engage with the people, events and brands that matter to them.  According to Nielsen and NM Incite’s latest Social Media Report, consumers continue to spend more time on social networks than on any other category of sites—roughly 20 percent of their total time online via personal computer (PC), and 30 percent of total time online via mobile.

According to a survey, titled 'JadoPado's Anatomy of E-commerce in the UAE; Among the respondents who had shopped online before, consumer electronics were the most common online purchase (85% of respondents), followed by travel and event tickets (58%), and software and applications (49%).

New data reveals that photos on Facebook Pages generate 53% more Likes then the average post.

We are moving toward a more visual marketing world. As users, we often prefer consuming visual content to reading blocks of text. In fact, Facebook users are uploading approximately 300 million photos to Facebook per day, up 20% from earlier this year. Even usage of the photo-sharing tool Instagram, purchased by Facebook in April of 2012, has increased 1,179% in six months.

Globally, spending on measured media will rise from $538.75 billion in 2012 to $676.17 billion in 2016. But tough economic realities are mirrored in some regional figures. As Western Europe and North America struggle to regain
momentum, media spending will post low single-digit gains. Other parts of the world will do far better.
