Elliot Walker's insight:

This is an excellent round of sports action cameras. We see the GoPro everywhere we go in Cornwall - on surfboards, kites, kayaks, bikes. It is the de rigueur piece of kit for adventurous types. However it is good to see other manufacturers widening the choice with a range of different sizes, functionality and price points. If you're thinking about buying a sports action camera, this guide should help you choose your ultimate set-up.

A new 17 mile trail covering some of the most beautiful parts of Bodmin Moor and surrounding settlements will be officially launched on Saturday, 8 March with the Caradon Hill Chestnut Cycle Challenge The Caradon Trail links rural communities to many of the key heritage sites in the Caradon area, using mostly quiet, rural, lanes which are perfect for walkers and cyclists The new trail has been developed by the Caradon Hill Area Heritage Project (CHAHP), a multi agency group led by Cornwall Council which also includes representatives of parish councils, landowners, commoners and the local community
Elliot Walker's insight:

This looks like it could be worth a trip up to Bodmin Moor to cycle the new Caradon Trail. This road trail covers some of the most scenic locations around the Moor.

Supposedly suitable for varying levels of fitness and abilities. All in all about 17 miles of way waymarked trails to explore. You can even download an app featuring information on landmarks and scenery in the area, much of which is a UNESCO World Heritage Area,

Seems like an adventurous way to explore some of Bodmin Moors best features.

Instagram

Someone sent me this one. A pic from 1986 in Cornwall, England for the World Amateur Championships. I was 14. The water was freezing and my O'Neill wetsuit didn't fit. I placed third, one spot ahead of @johnshimooka and just behind Nicky Woods and 'Poto' David who won the event in the under 18, Junior Men's division. The waves were better than you'd think you'd find in England but the food was much worse. I'll have to find some other photos from that trip. Jeff Booth placed second to Mark 'Sanga' Sainsbury in the Men's division. 'Sanga' (R.I.P.) was a great surfer and was one of the innovators of huge floaters over hollow sections. But we Americans all felt Boothy had out surfed Sanga though it wasn't to be. If you thought floaters scored high in Brasil a couple years ago, you should've been in England in '86! I think @rcj6666 placed third in the Men's that year. So many memories over a lifetime of surfing around the world. #TheOriginalFloatergate #FreezingMyAssOff #TwentyFootTideChanges @dougsilva808 @lewissamuels

Photo of the Day: Bombing Down Sheer Granite | Adventure Sports & Travel | Scoop.it

The pain and ecstasy of cycling to the South Pole

The pain and ecstasy of cycling to the South Pole | Adventure Sports & Travel | Scoop.it

Climbing Wall Treadmill: Exercise Machine Rocks Your House ...

Climbing Wall Treadmill: Exercise Machine Rocks Your House ... | Adventure Sports & Travel | Scoop.it
Far more exciting than a walking treadmill or elliptical machine, this infinite rock wall brings the challenges (and hard exercise) of scaling sheer cliffs ...
Elliot Walker's insight:

I'm all up for taking things to extremes, but this climbing wall treadmill might be overdoing it a bit. This is an 'infinite' climbing wall allowing rock climbing enthusiasts to to train on hand and foot-holds that go round and round constantly. You can even control the speed and wall angle for that cruscial overhang training.

I understand that it may be a bit cold and dark to get out on Cornwall's crags and cliffs at this time of year, and that we may need to venture inside to train in the gym or on an indoor climbing wall. But these machines are a bit big - where would we put one in our house? But nevertheless it looks like a fun and novel way to keep fit for climbing. Perhaps one of the local climbing walls should install one of these for a bit of a laugh.
