A new study in the journal Brain and Language explores the rate at which adults learn a new language through a novel approach: studying resting-state brain activity of study participants. The study, organized by scientists at the University of Washington (UW), is the first to predict subsequent language-learning rates based on patterns of the brain in its resting-state.

El Atlas Lingüístico de la Península Ibérica (ALPI) es el gran proyecto de la Geografía Lingüística de la primera mitad del siglo XX dirigido por Tomás Navarro Tomás en el Centro de Estudios Históricos. En la web alpi.csic.es se puede acceder a los datos sobre las hablas románicas de 527 localidades peninsulares y baleares recogidos en el trabajo de campo. La herramienta de consulta permite diferentes tipos de búsqueda y facilita el cartografiado de los resultados. Pilar García Mouton (CSIC) ha coordinado la edición, financiada por el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, con apoyos de las universidades colaboradoras, y una ayuda de la Fundación BBVA. La página del ALPI ofrece información interesante para especialistas, profesores, estudiantes y público general. Presenta la historia del proyecto original, describe su metodología y facilita el acceso a cientos de fotografías, de gran valor etnográfico, que se hicieron en los años 30 durante las encuestas.
