Is Anonymous Activism a Good Thing?

Is Anonymous Activism a Good Thing? | Activism and Organizing | Scoop.it
Lily Chamberlain explores the effectiveness of anonymous activism, but does she have the issues framed properly? Weigh in!
Dyana Mason's insight:

I disagree with this assessment.  There is too much anonymity in public debate now with blog posts and comments.  Without worrying about our own reputations, public discourse can quickly devolve into chaos and disrespect.  Many blogs are moving to required bylines to keep online debate civil.  What say you?

Nonprofits can help immigrant children, but can't solve the problem.

Nonprofits can help immigrant children, but can't solve the problem. | Activism and Organizing | Scoop.it
The protestors in Murrieta, California who forced buses of unaccompanied immigrant children to turn back represented the worst of America—an ugly expression of nativism that should embarrass all of us who are the children, grandchildren, and descendants of immigrants ourselves. Nonprofits and faith-based groups are helping these kids, but the solution is comprehensive immigration reform—now.

"Rent-A-Group" Organizing

Dyana Mason's insight:

This is an interesting article following the trends of campaigns shipping in organizers to work on an issue, then leave once the vote or election happens.  The author implies (and I agree with) that this strategy doesn't lead to long-term sustainable change, although important issues can be decided this way, too.
