Good news is, there are tools that can help making your life easier.

The NMC Horizon Report: 2014 Higher Education Edition, officially launched on 3 February 2014, aims to examine emerging technologies for their potential impact on and use in teaching and learning within higher education settings.

It is the 11th annual higher education report of its kind, and is published by the New Media Consortium, a not-for-profit consortium of more than 250 colleges, universities, museums and companies that conducts research into emerging forms of media and technology.

The report, produced in partnership with the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative, picks out six “key trends” that are accelerating the adoption of technology in higher education.

Family Learning Practitioners, that are looking for some good mathematics games to add to their lists of resources, would do well to check out the links on the Woodlands Resources site.
The games offer fun practice activities for learners.
The games are organized according to skill sets.

The categories are...
   - measuring skills,
   - number skills,
   - shape and space skills, and
   - data skills.

Many of the games are also appropriate for use on interactive whiteboards and touch-screen computers.
Science and Literacy too...
In addition to the mathematics games Woodlands Resources includes sections for science and literacy games.
Note: The literacy section features games that use British English so teachers of American learners may not find them all that useful.

Like similar sites, Open Curriculum offers a collection of thousands of resources for teaching mathematics.
Users can browse the Open Curriculum resource lists according to grade level and topic. As you might expect, a lot of the featured resources are Khan Academy materials. In addition to the Khan Academy materials you will find lessons created and shared by other practitioners.
Note: Open Curriculum provides more than just a collection of mathematics lesson materials. In your Open Curriculum account users can create and share their own lessons and units of study. They can also upload existing materials to incorporate into the lessons and units that they create in Open Curriculum.
Open Curriculum say that English and science lesson materials are coming soon. In the meantime the maths resources and lesson planner will raise awareness of how the service functions.
The sharing aspect of Open Curriculum could be useful for Education departments that are looking for a place to share materials that they like and create with each other.

With so much information flying around on the web it is actually quite easy to find new ideas, tools and resources for any learning environment.
What's difficult, is finding a place to store them all and finding the time to assess, organize and put them into practice.
Pocket is one solution that many practitioners are using to organize ideas and clear this clutter. It’s really quite simple…

   - Find something you like online,
   - click the button and
   - it is saved to your Pocket.
Pocket also allows users to tag all of the different articles, videos, images and other pieces of content they save. By setting up an organised tagging structure, Pocket can be used as their own searchable resource centre.

This means that regardless of what device they are using or where they are, they will always be able to access every resource they have ever saved.

Pocket also allows users to tag all of the different articles, videos, images and other pieces of content they save. By setting up an organised tagging structure, Pocket can be used as their own searchable resource centre.

Once they've found a video that they like, they can add their voice comments to it.
They can also create a series of questions to go along with their chosen video.
Questions are inserted along a timeline that matches the video. That means that learners don't have to wait until the end of a video in order to answer the questions.

Embed Google Maps lets users easily and quickly embed Google Maps in their webpages, blogs and other web presences.

They can embed a basic Google Map or the 360° Street View panorama.

To get started, users search for a place using the Search box and pan or zoom to ensure that the map they’d like to embed appears in the current window.

Next copy the IFRAME embed code and paste it in their chosen web presence template.
