10 Best Social Media Management Tools

10 Best Social Media Management Tools | academiPad | Scoop.it

Social media is one of the most effective ways for you and your business to get more traffic and generate new leads. Having a presence on all the major networks like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn is a necessity these days for any business. But what tools are the social media gurus actually using to manage these multiple accounts?

Via Martin Gysler
academiPad's insight:

This is a really great list of social media management tools. It feature my favourites (Buffer, Hootsuite and SocialBro), but also some I have never heart of before. Also, there is a little but nice discussion on the difference between Hootsuite and Buffer. Both are great apps with their respective strengths.

Thank you for your very useful information Wendy. I think you said what many people need to know to find their way in the social media world where the plethora of tools makes things, sometimes, complicated.
Anthony Burke's comment, April 21, 2013 1:22 AM
All these tools keep "leap-frogging" each other in terms of functionality so I just keep an eye on several of them which is where this community comes in useful to see what others think and are using :)

Diigo for Professional Development

Diigo for Professional Development | academiPad | Scoop.it
The teachers that I work with often ask me, "Where do you find out about all these new tools and online resources?".   In addition to the use of Twitter, Diigo is at the top of my goto list for fin...
academiPad's insight:

I am a huge fan of diigo for years now, and I am surprise by how few people actually know and use it. Diigo is a social bookmarking tool, but way better than delicious (is that one still around?) and others because it also lets you annotate webpages!

I use diigo to highlight and tag webpages - kind of my own personal web archive. All my annotations and tags are set to private by default, because I don't feel exactly comfortable with other people knowing on such a detailed paragraph level what I am working on.

In practice, everything that I read online ends up being tagged and highlighted. And if I don't have time right now, I save it for reading it later.

There is an education license which gives you an upgraded version for still free.

Stylus Academicus: What stylus is optimized for handwriting and conceptualizing ideas?

Stylus Academicus: What stylus is optimized for handwriting and conceptualizing ideas? | academiPad | Scoop.it
What stylus is the best for academics and students? One that is optimized for handwriting and conceptualizing ideas.
academiPad's insight:

Does it make sense to buy a stylus for university and college work? The short answer is: Only if you don’t expect miracles. A true paper-notebook-like experience is impossible until the next generation of styluses rolls around. However, there are a few styluses today that are optimized for handwriting and drawing conceptual maps, and these are worth a try if you are willing to experiment a little in your analog/digital workflow.

The 30 Best iPad apps for college students and academics

The 30 Best iPad apps for college students and academics | academiPad | Scoop.it
This post discusses my personal best 30 iPad apps for college students, grad students, professors and everybody else in university and academia.
academiPad's insight:

This is my personal list of the 30 best iPad apps for college / grad students and professors. It is not one of these countless posts that list a bunch of generic apps like Safari, Facebook and iBooks. Those are not really specific to people in university, and I also bet you knew those already. I am also not going to throw a list at you filled with niche iPad apps targeted at one particular subject or at earlier years of education. So what will you find here?

This is a list of my favorite iPad apps that are useful for everybody in academia – college students, grad students, postdocs, lecturers and professors – because they help us excel in our core workflows: Writing, Reading, Thinking, Presenting and Organizing our academic lives.

Android vs. iPad: What platform will be the long-term winner?

Android vs. iPad: What platform will be the long-term winner? | academiPad | Scoop.it
Android tablets like the Nexus 10 boast better hardware specs than the iPad 4, but think twice: Apps and ecosystems are more important than hardware specs!
academiPad's insight:

This is my own analysis on whether you should bet your money and time on the iPad or Android platform. It's a longterm decision, because the money you invest in apps and, more importantly, the time you invest in building your workflow(!), will be lost if you switch platform down the road.

And of course, if you are in the difficult spot to decide for your entire college or school which tablet will be used by students and faculty, the stakes are extra high.

This article presents a unique perspective: Hardware specs do not really matter much (at least if you are going for top shelf tablets), but the ecosystem is much more important. Two things are to be kept in mind: How would your tablet fit into your existing computing workflow, and what ecosystem has the best chances to long-term attract developers to produce high quality apps.

For me, the iPad is the answer to both of these questions.

If you want to read more about how I fit the iPad into my workflow, check out my articles on academiPad at http://www.joachim-scholz.com/academipad

Kickoff - Chat and Tasks for Teams | academiPad | Scoop.it
academiPad's insight:

This new collaborative task management app for Mac and iOS looks interesting. Think of it like a blend between iChat and Wunderlist/Things. There are lots of these collaborative task management apps on the web, but they ask for monthly subscriptions. This one is a one-time payment. A large one with about $25, but only once.

I can see this be a good tool if you are working with co-authors in a different town, or for students working on group projects. Its only Apple so far, unfortunately.
