I've Been Using Evernote All Wrong. Here's Why It's Actually Amazing

I've Been Using Evernote All Wrong. Here's Why It's Actually Amazing | academiPad | Scoop.it
For years, I kept hearing how awesome Evernote was: how it could store everything you possibly needed, make it available everywhere, and how scores of people couldn't live without it. I tried it multiple times, and never saw the appeal until now.
academiPad's insight:

The best tip in this article is maybe to keep lots of different notebooks with shorter notes, instead of adding stuff to a single notebook from time to time. So instead of thinking as an Evernote note as a page to which you can easily go back later and add stuff, think about it maybe as a little box where you can throw in lots of little pieces of papers you jotted down ideas.

Dear Lifehacker,
It seems like everyone is always raving about Evernote, but I don't really understand its appeal. Isn't it just a notes app that other apps do better or simpler? What's makes Evernote so great?
academiPad's insight:

A great intro to Evernote by LIfehacker. Great for getting started with Evernote (like me)

Evernote: A 0-to-60 MPH Guide

Evernote: A 0-to-60 MPH Guide | academiPad | Scoop.it
Evernote is many things to many people because it’s so powerful. But for the same reason, Evernote’s purpose is vague enough that it can be hard to get started with it. First, you have to figure out what it can do for you.

academiPad's insight:

The content curation (public and private) space is getting really crowded. I am no big fan of the very limited pinterest and prefer scoop.it. But Keep seems to be very worth checking out.

Hi David, Keeeb is a good tool if you need to collect and organize web resources, images or video. It's better than Pinterest functionality-wise but it does not have its audience. So my advice is try it out and see if it does what you need to do.

Thanks Robin, I'm going to try ;-)

Evernote vs. Google Keep: Which Does More?

Evernote vs. Google Keep: Which Does More? | academiPad | Scoop.it
Now that Google Keep is out, how does it compare against note taking juggernaut Evernote?
academiPad's insight:

Oh no! Jst about as I move into Evernote to round off my information management worklow, Google comes out with Keep. Now what is the better one? This post puts Evernote and Google Keep to a head-to-head race, just to find that Evernote is the more mature app (surprise) whose feature set is richer at the moment. Now long-term Evernote's advantage will most likely be reduced, and with Google's power and wide reach, it is also conceivable that Google Keep will excel in what Evernote is great as well: pretty much every serious app and web service integrates with Evernote.

So longterm you should keep an eye on Google Keep, if you are willing to trust Google with your notebook. Thats the killer for me, as usual. I don't trust Google. I don't use Google Mail, Google Calendar, or Google Docs. I rather keep that separate from my searches and map inquiries, which I believe give enough away of me already.

That's why I continue exploring Evernote.
