Senate Republicans on Wednesday blocked the confirmation of federal appeals court nominee Caitlin Halligan for the second time, denying President Barack Obama a key judicial appointment.

Kaysee Beckstrom's comment, March 24, 2013 1:55 PM
Sometimes I feel as though President Obama has too much power and he has been too influential in making laws and such. I think it is good that he is being denied.

This article really stood out to me. I found it a great current example of the checks and balances we have in place. Sometimes, just discussing a system such as this in class doesn't give the full picture of it. This article really helped me see how it really works and applies.

Winning The Abortion Debate...Is it moral, is it religious, is it science or is it common sense?? | Littlebytesnews Abortion Issues | Scoop.it
Peter Bromberg originally shared this post to The Conservative Union (Open Discussion):What's wrong with the abortion debate here?
I see that my conservative friends are mostly expressing outrage, both moral and religious, but this has little effect on the actual dynamic of what is happening in society.

People are, for example, changing their online profile photos to a symbol of pro-life solidarity; again this accomplishes little because the pro-abortion crowd and the media could care less -- their eyes will simply glaze over. About all it does is to make many of my online friends look the same to me.

The real issue here is not the expression of outrage or solidarity but to understand what is happening in society, and to actually be willing to take constructive steps to fix it.

We could have new legislation tomorrow that makes it 100% illegal for a woman to have an abortion, and yet the issue would still be far from solved. The challenge is to deal with the societal beliefs that allow and even encourage young people to have sex without worrying about the consequences, because today the woman can have an abortion, paid for by Obamacare. The challenge is to educate young people to be willing to take responsibility. And the challenge is to provide a system where not only can a developing human being be safely brought to term, and the family unit be supported, but if the mother and father are unable or unwilling to keep the baby, we will have structures and programs in place that will enable that child to be adopted, to grow up in a loving and nurturing environment, and to become a productive human being.

So we can rant on with the outrage over baby killers such as Gosnell. We can talk about how abortion is morally wrong and reprehensible. And I'll agree.

But until we start actually tackling the real issues, none of this is going to make much difference at all. That's my Sunday morning rant. Thank you. Also see:Peter Bromberg The Scientific Argument For Pro - Lifehttps://plus.google.com/u/0/114085939943834183247/posts/5nbCqSLsZu9
littlebytesnews's insight:

In response to this thought provoking post by a G+ friend/follower +Peter Bromberg on the abortion debate and to some of the commenters from a great Conservative G+ group +Conservative Union I have this response:

As for the topic of abortion and religion, I agree with +Peter Bromberg we don't need religion to make the case against abortion, but it doesn't mean those who are religious have to keep their mouth shut about their moral/religious reasons for opposing abortion. I oppose abortion for scientific reasons and moral/religious reasons.

I have defended the right to life based on scientific reasons, human rights reasons and moral/religious reasons. Sadly, those who defend abortion will make any and every excuse in the book to justify abortion, but it comes down to selfishness by some of the most militant abortion advocates. They will dehumanize the baby and deny the term fetus means human offspring/baby in Latin. They will call the fetus/baby a parasite and non-human until he/she is born. There are some so sick who call themselves ethicists and some who are atheists who believe infanticide is ok and that killing a baby who survives abortion is ok....and even killing them up to the age of two or three is legitimate in some twisted people's minds because they see children as property/objects they can dispose of and kill if they are a burden to them.

Thankfully times have changed and women have more options since Roe v Wade was legalized and there are safe baby programs, more welfare and adoption/community resources available and there is more public acceptance of single women and pregnant teens.

In the past they were hidden and taken away to have their babies or abortions and they were shamed for becoming pregnant before marriage, but this is not the case anymore and society has evolved in that sense. However, it is this reason that leading a moral life,  either one the Church teaches to get married before having sex and raising children or through leading a moral life that uses common sense that if you have sex and become pregnant the moral thing to do would be to take personal responsibility and raise the child on your own or to place the child up for adoption...instead because of the legalization of abortion and making abortion available on demand up until 40 weeks, allowing for the 'health of the mother' exception, which can include chronic fatigue, headaches or depression and other excuses, women can hire someone to abort their child up until their birth date and it isn't illegal.

Some states have banned late term abortion, but the 'health of the mother' exception is still legal and allows for women to seek abortions just because their financial situation might have changed and raising a child might put them under "stress". Sure not having the economic stability and personal support to raise a child on your own might be 'stressful', but it is stressful even for those who have a stable income and support system.

Killing another human being should not be an option in a civilized society that respects the equal right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and a society that recognizes we are all endowed by our Creator with equal inalienable rights and that the greatest of those rights is the right to life because without it all other rights are void.

Anyway, I didn't expect to rant so long in my comment but this subject is something I have always been passionate about and abortion is something that needs to be banned if we are to be a civilize and humane society. There is nothing civilized nor humane about abortion and allowing women to 'choose' to kill their unborn child. That is 'government sanctioned murder' and there should never be a reason for the government to sanction the killing of INNOCENT human beings.

While, I'm Catholic, and the Bishops teach against the death penalty, the Church teaches that we must use the death penalty to protect the greater good of society from those who would pose a threat to society. Therefore, those who are convicted of a heinous crime such as Charles Manson and any other murderer who has admitted guilt, has been found guilty without reasonable doubt and through sufficient DNA evidence has been proven guilty should be sentenced to death..there is NEVER a case where the unborn child deserves the death penalty and abortion is the death penalty against the unborn.

In many cases of rape, children are aborted for the crimes of the father. 60% of abortions are coerced/forced on rape victims, underage and domestic violence victims, etc. and 98% of abortions are done because of inconvenience to  the mother/father involved. Only about 1% are because of rape and of those many are coerced because they are shamed into abortion...because society says, 'why would you want to carry the child of a rapist?'

Then there are those so called 1% who abort because of the 'health of the mother', yet many of them are not because of the 'health of the mother'...at least not  physical, life saving health of the mother, but mental...due to stress, coercion and fear of raising a child with a disability such as down syndrome. Very few abortions are because the child is not viable...especially late term abortions. There should never be an excuse to have a late term abortion because once a child is viable as early as 20 weeks they can be delivered early, even if there was a physical reason the mother had to deliver early, such as  high blood pressure or gestational diabetes.

Please see these posts/articles below for other reasons abortion should be opposed and made illegal...but to educate yourself and others....that is the true solution to ending abortion...EDUCATE others and inform them...raise your children to respect their bodies and others and to respect all human life from womb to tomb.

Richard Dillard, PMP, SSBB, ABD 7.1's curator insight, May 4, 2013 10:08 PM

Is it possible that something can be legal without being lawful? And what does that have to do with leadership? Well, that's what I want to address in this post.

A lot of media and public attention has been paid lately to Abortion, currently legal in the United States under Roe v. Wade (1973). This attention is perhaps the natural consequence of raising public awareness to the atrocities committed by Gosnell (and many others like him) every day. Building off my recent post about the idea of "right" vs. "wrong" leadership (and I realize that, with this post, I'll now have touched on two extremely sensitive issues, gay marriage/ adoption and murder/ abortion, in the course of one day), there is a moral imperative for leaders here:

"We have confused what is lawful with what is legal. Chesterton said it well: 'For under the smooth legal surface of our society there are already moving very lawless things. We are always near the breaking-point when we care only for what is legal and nothing for what is lawful. Unless we have a moral principle about such delicate matters as marriage and murder, the whole world will become a welter of exceptions with no rules. There will be so many hard cases that everything will go soft.' This is America today. We do not know the essential difference between what is lawful and what is legal. Our moral reasoning is dying before our eyes. Nobody knows this better than the lawless." - Ravi Zacharias Response to Boston Tragedy, May 3, 2013

If this is true, then it is also possible for something lawful to become illegal...perhaps the Right to Keep and Bear Arms at some point. How can we, as Real Leaders, know the difference between what is lawful and what is legal? Is it really that important? What are the consequences when we don't get it?

In Real Leadership! Are You Ready? I challenge the reader almost right from the beginning with the idea that leadership must be personal, but it isn't private. What that means is, leadership based in values informed by absolutes is a highly personal matter, but it ultimately becomes public through the impact we have on others. This is why I try to drive home the idea that our leadership can’t be built around a company “code of ethics” and that leadership, as attained and applied through the Leadership Enrichment LIFE-cycle, is intended to be constrained (i.e., governed) by righteousness or “the moral law”, otherwise motive, means and ends get perverted and bad things naturally begin to follow.

As Ravi points out earlier in the same response: "Adolf Hitler told the world what he was planning to do. The naïve of that time did not take him seriously. It took one of the bloodiest and most senseless wars in history to stop that genocide orchestrated by him. What will it take for us to wake up to the avowed threat(s) of our time [in all their diverse forms]?"

I propose what it takes is REAL LEADERSHIP! Only when we become Real Leaders will we be able to understand the difference between right and wrong; the lawful and legal. To become a Real Leader requires that we develop the ability to recognize and reject the wrong in our own lives first so that we can recognize and reject the wrong in society, even if it is legal. Tolstoy is credited with saying: "Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself."

Without this ability to Learn, Change, Grow, and Lead, we will never have a platform of authority and authenticity for others to stand on. Perhaps most tragic is the fact that we will continue in the silence of consent when the lawful becomes illegal or the legal is unlawful...simply rolling with the flow of the lie and making it stronger for fear we may be ourselves exposed.

Wherever there is a social/ public controversy, it is always preceded by a personal/ private dilemma. We need to get our personal leadership right first..then we'll be able to properly distinguish between what is lawful and what is legal and begin working together toward ensuring they become one and the same.

Pakistan TV show gives away abandoned babies for ratings

Pakistan TV show gives away abandoned babies for ratings | Littlebytesnews Abortion Issues | Scoop.it
Pakistan's television wars have plumbed new depths in the battle for Ramadan ratings with the country's most controversial presenter giving away abandoned babies on his prime-time show.

Aamir Liaquat Hussain has presented two babies to childless couples so far during Islam's holy month.

His show's heady mix of charity, piety and kitsch has made it a hit with viewers but also attracted accusations that he is using religion to generate headlines.

In an episode broadcast last week, Mr Hussain shocked the studio audience by promising the gift of a baby. "This is the beautiful girl who was thrown on a pile of garbage by somebody. See how beautiful and innocent she is," he said, showing a baby girl to the camera.

He then introduced a shell-shocked couple who were handed the child by the head of a charity that rescues abandoned babies. The tearful wife described the child as a "gift of Ramadan" before her husband described their frustration at not being able to have children.

"These 14 years were full of hardships, people asked to go for second marriage but I remained patient and also asked my wife to be patient," he said.

The spectacle was repeated for a second time this week.

The babies were presented by Muhammad Ramzan Chhipa, who runs the Chhipa Welfare Association.

"We have lots of babies that are just abandoned, left in the garbage or other dirty places," he said. "Often we just find the bodies so our message that we make is to tell people to bring their babies to us, don't just leave them."

He declined to discuss how the couples were vetted but said they had previously approached his organisation to adopt children.

Pakistan's raucous talk shows have huge followings. Controversy is never far away. One TV anchor was sacked after she patrolled Karachi parks, hunting down young couples on illicit rendezvous without chaperones. Another generated headlines by barging into suspected brothels. The battle for viewers is most intense during Ramadan. Last year Veena Malik - a model perhaps best known for posing nude in an Indian magazine - hosted a rival show, which featured an exorcism. Another programme showed the live conversion of a Hindu to Islam.

littlebytesnews's insight:

While it's nice they are seeking homes for these babies, it seems inhumane to be giving them away like they are property on television just to boost ratings. It's good these babies were not aborted but sad they were abandoned and now they are being exploited like this. Hopefully they will find good homes, but this doesn't seem like the proper way to go about it.

Do you think the babies should be adopted through an adoption agency or is this a good way to find them safe and loving homes?

Help for women who suffer and regret their abortions. We must reach out more to these women and stop those who seek abortion from becoming victims of coerced abortions. 60% of abortions are coerced by spouses, and  others. Women who are raped are often shamed into having an abortion because they are told 'why should you be reminded of the rape and carry the baby of a rapist around'. This is not the kind of love and caring these women need they need support to avoid making a life changing decision which ends the life of another human being and rips out the soul of the woman who survives the abortion.

Even Satanists Distance Themselves From Pro-Abortion “Hail Satan” Cult | Littlebytesnews Abortion Issues | Scoop.it
Abortion activists opposing the 20-week abortion ban bill in Texas have drawn national attention for chanting "Hail Satan" while pro-life advocates sang Amazing

Now, a Twitter account run by actual Satanists is distancing itself from the pro-abortion activists. You know the abortion proponents have gone too far when even lovers of the Devil himself are disclaiming the comments.

The tweet comes from the so-called “UK Church of Satan,” which describes itself as “A community of free thinking individuals and realists. Connecting followers of the Church of Satan in the UK.”

Unfortunate to see Satan’s name used in such a diabolical manner. Another example of what ‘Satanism’ doesn’t represent. #HailSatan

— UK Church of Satan (@UKChurchofSatan) July 3, 2013

Bill Donohue of the Catholic League responded to LifeNews about the “Hail Satan” chants.

“It would be unfair to say that all pro-abortion supporters would support this obscenity, and indeed most would not. Among hard-core activists, though, there are no doubt more than just a few who feel comfortable with invoking Satan’s name in behalf of their cause. Here’s why I say this,” he said.

He continued: “There are writers and activists who support more than abortion rights—they hail it as a positive good. For example, the book by women’s studies professor Patricia Lunneborg, Abortion: A Positive Decision, boasts how abortion liberates women. The volume, Abortion is a Blessing, by militant atheist Anne Nicol Gaylor, sees abortion as a sacred right. So does French author Ginette Paris: her book, The Sacrament of Abortion, tells us exactly where she is coming from.”

1 issue Obama won’t talk about

1 issue Obama won’t talk about | Littlebytesnews Abortion Issues | Scoop.it

The House passed a historic piece of legislation last week that prohibits late-term abortions.   The “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,” introduced by Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., with 187 co-sponsors, passed in the House by a vote of 228–196. It prohibits abortion 20 weeks – five months – after conception.

As Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., who led the debate on the bill, noted in her remarks, science is clear that at this stage, at the end of the second trimester of pregnancy, the unborn child feels pain.

This initiative was a response in the House to the tragedy and outrage of the case of Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia abortion doctor recently convicted of murdering three children in late-term abortions.

Yet despite the clarity that a child in the womb after five months is living, moving and feeling, our president, who likes to present himself as a man of compassion, not only wasted no time in indicating he will veto this bill, but he doesn’t even want to have the conversation.

Immediately after it passed the House, the Executive Office of the President issued a statement saying that this bill was “an assault on a woman’s right to choose” and that if presented with this bill, the president’s “senior advisers would recommend that he veto” it.

Does a woman’s “right to choose” really include murder?

Shouldn’t the American people at least hear an explanation from their president about why he would conclude that a child – moving and feeling in the mother’s womb – is not life? And if it is life, why it is not murder to kill this child? And if it is murder, why it should be legal in a nation that claims to be civil, moral and free?

You might think that differences in ideas and values are what divide our country.

But perhaps it is not values or ideas that divide us, but words.

Who would challenge the words in America’s Declaration of Independence, written almost two and half centuries ago, that “all Men are created equal” with rights to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”?

Today a black man sits in the White House and serves as president of this country.

But at the time of the nation’s founding, black skin was enough to disallow a man from being legally considered a man, deserving of those unalienable rights enumerated in the Declaration of Independence.

WTH?Horror As Babies' Bodies Are Fished Out of Sewage Ponds

WTH?Horror As Babies' Bodies Are Fished Out of Sewage Ponds | Littlebytesnews Abortion Issues | Scoop.it

An average four newly-born babies are fished out of the Lemara sewage collection dams every month.

Mr Fabian Maganga, a water engineer at the Arusha Urban Water Supply and Sewage Authority (AUWSA) admitted that the liquid waste stabilization points in Lemara area are frequently getting blocked and more often than not, the problem becomes bodies of dead babies either dumped or flushed into the waste system.

The Authority manages the waste deposit tanks (dams) at Lemara.

According to Mr Maganga, the babies' bodies are usually trapped at filter points that sieve off solid waste from entering the tanks. When fished out the bodies are taken to the Regional Hospital for other processes to take place.

The AUWSA officer said it was becoming a serious problem as this means an average of 50 babies meet this fate every year at Lemara.

Mr Karim Mushi the Ward Representative at Lemara admitted that dead babies are indeed being fished from the sewage dumps in the area but added that they usually flow into the area via pipes that channel sewage into the lagoons south of the city. "The babies do not originate from Lemara," he stated.

Remnants of dead babies are also being discovered at the Muriet dumpsite where the town's garbage get deposited.

But the discarded babies nightmare of Arusha doesn't end there. The Regional Hospital of Mount Meru has, on the other hand, been handling a similar grim figure. That is four children aged less than 15 years who get taken to the medical centre every month after suffering brutal and serious cases of defilement.

"Between January and September this year, more than 30 cases of children aged below 15 years who were raped, sodomized or suffered other forms of defilement were reported here some in critical condition," said Dr Eliza Bura who handles such matters at the Mount Meru Hospital.

I read about this earlier in the week and couldn't believe it...but then again it is communist China where they force women to have abortions and choose gendercide to keep the male population unbalanced and more men for their armies.

I don't know where they got this crazy idea but it may as well be cannibalism!

Four more workers were injured in the incident, including one whose hand was severed. The man was trying to register the birth of his fourth child.
littlebytesnews's insight:

Sad they can't have as many children as they want, but I guess it's China's way of controlling debt and not providing welfare? Not that it is a humane way to control the debt but maybe it is their solution to prevent families who can't afford more than one child from going into poverty?

Perfect babies? IVF baby born using revolutionary genetic-screening process

Perfect babies? IVF baby born using revolutionary genetic-screening process | Littlebytesnews Abortion Issues | Scoop.it
Next-generation sequencing could enable IVF clinics to determine the chances of children developing diseases
littlebytesnews's insight:

Does this mean the baby will be a perfect human being and not have any genetic illnesses or deformities and will he be able to reproduce 'perfect' genes in the future? How safe is this to be creating IVF babies that are custom ordered/designed?? Will this lead to the extermination of babies born with defects and less acceptance of the disabled??

As I said before...they'll kill your babies without batting an eye...then run down to the prison and SAVE a convicted killer from the death penalty... And you wonder why God has been taking his time coming back... I wouldn't either...
