The 5 Important Elements of The 21st Century Classroom Infographic ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

The 5 Important Elements of The 21st Century Classroom Infographic ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | AAEEBL -- Digital This and That | Scoop.it

"The pace with which technology is developing makes it really impossible for anyone to predict what kind of classrooms we will have in the next few decades. What is apparent, however, is the fact that new ways of learning are mushrooming here and there as a direct impact of the embrace of this technology in education. Mobile learning, blended learning, flipped classroom, to mention but a few, are some immediate examples that come to the surface when talking about this interactional relationship between the digital and the educational.

This excellent graphic below sheds more light on how classrooms have been transformed by technology and draws clear comparisons between several learning modes. I invite you to have a look and share with us your thoughts about it. Enjoy"

Marie Arndt's curator insight, June 21, 2013 7:40 AM

Infrastructure and proper training for teachers are essentials to make this work. Often teachers are not given enough time to learn about the new technology, which makes them negative towards the change. Management must see the pedagogical benefits of technology in the classroom, not as a money saving exercise!

Ivon Prefontaine, PhD's curator insight, July 3, 2013 1:13 PM

We should not predict the classrooms of the future. What we need to do is help children learn the skills to be in those classrooms and workplaces which are turbulent and uncertain.

LEAD Commission to propose 5-point plan to speed introduction of digital learning in US classrooms | Wash Post

A week after President Barack Obama’s call for U.S. schools to be outfitted with high-speed Internet within five years, an independent panel that studied the lack of technology at school says digital learning, including the super-fast Internet connections, can be introduced even sooner.

The LEAD Commission is finalizing a five-point plan to speed the adoption of digital learning in schools by 2016. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the panel’s blueprint on Wednesday; the full plan is expected to be formally released in the coming weeks.

The commission was created in March 2012 to research the state of and figure out how to speech the introduction of technology in U.S. schools. The president of Columbia University and a former U.S. education secretary are among the panel’s four co-chairmen.

Last week, Obama visited a Mooresville, N.C., middle school to see the digital learning that takes place there, including how students do their work exclusively on laptops. He also called on the Federal Communications Commission to use a program that pays for Internet access in schools and libraries through a surcharge on telephone bills to meet his goal of connecting 99 percent of students to super-fast Internet within five years, or by sometime in 2018.

“In a country where we expect free Wi-Fi with our coffee, why shouldn’t we have it in our schools?” Obama said.

Most U.S. schools have Internet access, but the connections don’t have enough capacity or are slow, according to the blueprint.

Like the president, the commission calls for the FCC to update its E-Rate program to pay to connect schools to high-speed Internet. Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel said the agency could start the process of updating the program as soon as this summer.

Jim Steyer, one of the LEAD Commission’s chairmen, said it would cost at least $6 billion to wire schools.

The Importance of Leadership in Educational Technology | ZeroDivide

The Importance of Leadership in Educational Technology | ZeroDivide | AAEEBL -- Digital This and That | Scoop.it

Reading EdSource’s recent article on the departure of Oakland Unified School District Superintendent Tony Smith, I was not surprised by the significance placed on his leadership for the future of the community school movement in California. We at ZeroDivide know what the research says about the importance of leadership to the success of education programs and we have observed it ourselves.

Research by RAND Corporation suggests that almost 60 percent of student achievement can be attributed to the quality and leadership of principals and teachers. Another study discusses the indirect way in which good leadership improves student outcomes. By strengthening collective teacher efficacy, good leaders create school environments that support student learning.

At ZeroDivide, we have worked for 15 years to improve community and organizational outcomes through the use of technology, and our approach to building tech capacity begins with cultivating strong leadership. It has been our experience that efforts to infuse technology into an organization require commitment and involvement from the top. Completely embracing new tools and systems—whether in schools, in nonprofit organizations or in communities—requires culture change, and leaders need to set the pace and the direction and provide support at every step of the way.

As schools across the country prepare to fully implement the Common Core State Standards, superintendents, principals and other leaders will be key drivers of sorely needed school culture change. We have all heard the rallying cry of policy leaders, education advocates and President Obama to bring classrooms up to speed with the 21st century. The Common Core provides an opportunity to not only make American classrooms more collaborative, interactive and challenging, but also more tech savvy. The Common Core includes specific technology standards that are embedded into each grade level.

Ben Bempong's curator insight, July 29, 2015 2:21 PM

Leadership is very important.  Leadership is super important because not only are you a leader of multiple school systems, but you are a leader of the community.  O admire how the article stated that good leadership indirect affects student in a positive manner.  This is very true.  Good leadership directly and indirectly affects leadership in an awesome way.

Rog Rothe's curator insight, July 30, 2015 12:28 AM

I scooped this article because it references and supports how powerful administration can be on learning outcomes.   We often don't attribute administration to test scores and learning growth, but they actually do play a major role in this area on some level.
