It all began with the “lifestream,” a phenomenon that I predicted in the 1990s and shared in the pages of Wired almost exactly 16 years ago.

Interactividad en jot down

http://www.jotdown.es/

With the advent of Mozilla’s Open Badge Infrastructure (OBI), many great organizations are incorporating badges into the structure of their websites. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this exciting project, I’ll discuss this particular type of badges; what are Open Badges, and how they can be used, and perhaps most importantly, why they should be used.

'sencillez'.

<- This infographic seems a little simplistic. I don't really agree with the tools lined up. i think some tools are used in various areas and processes.  I also don't think that curation is only about visibility, it equally sits in execution and in relationships. It  is too simplistic, but I do think that being a curator will be essential to being successful in a connected world. So worth saving anyway. (JS)

Measuring the Information Society

Measuring the Information Society | A New Society, a new education! | Scoop.it

MIS Report 2013

"The MIS report, which has been published annually since 2009, features two benchmarking tools to measure the information society: the ICT Development Index (IDI) and the ICT Price Basket (IPB). The 2012 IDI captures the level of ICT developments in 157 economies worldwide and compares progress made during the last year. The 2012 IPB combines the consumer prices for (fixed and mobile) telephone and Internet broadband services for 161 economies into one measure and compares these across countries, and over time.

The 5th edition of the ITU Measuring the Information Society (MIS) report was launched on 7 October 2013, at ITU headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland. Click here to watch the webcast of the launch. Launch events also took place in Addis Ababa, Bangkok, Brasilia, Cairo, Geneva, Moscow and New York..."

How People Use the Internet [INFOGRAPHIC]

How People Use the Internet [INFOGRAPHIC] | A New Society, a new education! | Scoop.it
Today, around the world more people have mobile phone subscriptions than have access to electricity and safe drinkable water. Today, almost a third of the world's population uses the internet (a 528.1% growth since 2000!

So what are we doing with all the time we spend online, and how do we know all that time is being spent in useful ways?

For many of us, the internet is among the first things we experience after we wake; in fact, 75% of users are online before 9 a.m. Over 75% of people in the US own a laptop, 53% a smart phone, and 31% a tablet. Email is the most common action performed by people on their laptops, while search is the top action for mobile phone and tablet users. 72% of people like to play games on their tablets while 70% use their mobile phones for social media. Where do we use these devices? 72% of people use their mobile phones while traveling, and 64% use them in restaurants and coffee shops. As for tablets, 88% of people use their devices in the living room, 79% in the bedroom.

Although there is room for improvement the internet will never be anything even remotely close to 100% secure. So long as there is money to be made via  fraudulent ways it will always attract the wrong crowd. Best we can do is be vigilant.

Cam Ward's curator insight, March 21, 2013 5:18 AM

This blog post makes the interesting point that as more and more essential infrastructure is migrated online the potential fallout from a malicious attack is increasing to the stage where even essential services like electricity, water, and transportation are all exposed to potential attacks.
