"I tweeted yesterday an interesting news item in Erik Robelen’s blog in Education Week that a few states (Oklahoma, California, Massachusetts) are seriously looking into some sort of assessment of creative thinking as part of the whole 21st century skills/entrepreneurship movement. I think it is a great idea, with a lot of potential for leveraging change.

Now, of course, the naysayers are quick to say that you cannot measure creative thinking. This is silly: here is a rubric for doing so..."

THE PROBLEMS:

"..."We need to rethink every facet of the journalism model," said Richard Gingras, VP of News at Google.

 

The news audience is evolving faster than news providers. By now, 75% of traffic is going to stories. A minority of visitors ever see a site's front-page curated presentation of the news.

 

But the problems go deeper than just presentation. News is a commodity now. It spreads virally across many media through new tellings and retellings. The Web is finally real-time.

News organizations no longer get to control the story. They have to do more than inform to stay relevant. News sites have to be useful.

 

THE SOLUTIONS:

To be useful, news sites need to be information tools, not just sources. Journalists are the people with the time and skills to gather all the needed information into one place and filter out the rest.

But the value of information is not just in the knowledge of it; it's in what you can do with it.

 

News isn't just about information. It's also storytelling. Anyone can publish text, photos or even video to the Web now. But technology enables new, compelling storytelling techniques that could shine in the hands of dedicated news organizations..."

Las bibliotecas más prestigiosas del mundo tienen su correlato en el mundo digital, donde los formatos impresos se presentan junto a otros multimedia -como audio o video- que los complementan, y que están asociados a otro modo de producción, organización, distribución y apropiación de la información. Sin embargo, lo que habitualmente llamamos bibliotecas digitales se distinguen de las virtuales, que abren un nuevo mundo de servicios en línea, adaptados a las demandas de los usuarios.
En un principio fueron las bibliotecas electrónicas, que permitieron acceder a la información en formato digital, con todas las ventajas que esto supuso en el acceso pero sin desarrollar otras potencialidades de lo virtual. Las bibliotecas digitales o virtuales, entendidas como un entorno fueron un desarrollo bastante posterior, y llegaron de la mano de proyectos que buscaron reunir colecciones de libros, servicios y personal especializado.
En esta nota recorremos la evolución de las bibliotecas digitales, a la luz de algunos casos paradigmáticos; y comentamos algunas de las principales modificaciones que éstas introducen en los distintos momentos de la gestión del conocimiento: la organización, comunicación o difusión, almacenamiento, búsqueda, filtrado o selección, y reutilización de la información.

Recuerdo cuando se dio el “gran salto” y, después de haber estado “navegando” pasivamente en páginas web, de pronto, empezó una avalancha de información, nuevos términos y conceptos (algo que seguirá). Me tocaba aprender nuevas cosas para adecuarme al cambio de paradigma y, además, para ayudar a aprender a otros.

Fue muy difícil al inicio, por eso, celebro el que, en estos tiempos, surjan documentos que ayuden a aprender sobre Web 2.0 de manera más sencilla, sobre todo a los inmigrantes digitales. A continuación, presento un resumen de las sugerencias de Lize De Clercq, para aprender Web 2.0, que son parte de la introducción de su artículo ¿Qué es la Web 2.0? y que forma parte del libro Web 2.0: Nuevas formas de aprender y participar editado por Mariona Grané y Cilia Willem para Laertes Educación (2009).
