In life and in leadership, we are constantly dealing with duality. To learn, we need to be curious. To lead, we need to have followers. To be strong, we need to be vulnerable. To give, we need to receive. Via Don Dea, Roy Sheneman, PhD, donhornsby

Delete the scoop?

Curating and sharing stories should be understood as part of a knowledge economy. If stories are tribal currency, then curators are money handlers. Via Robin Good, gdecugis
Robin Good's comment,
@Therese, yes, you need to be more selective. To do so, it can help to narrow down your topic or the type of people (tribe) you are serving this to. The more specific you are, the more you useful you become. And in turn, you will have much less relevant content to pass on to your readers.

As a curator, storycatcher, and scribe for my tribe, this appeals to me, as does the mask.
Karen Dietz's comment,

Interesting comments about being a dumpster diver/scavenger. The metaphor mostly works and like Robin and other curators, sifting through the mounds of garbage is part of the work. The dumpster diver or garbage picker metaphor implies we are sifting through trash that people have already thrown away and do not value. I see myself more as a treasure hunter finding and uncovering gems to share with others. Or being a detective sifting through tons of inconsequential material to find another important clue. How we language our work affects not only our own experiences, but the experiences of others too. I don't know about you all, but I'm panning for gold, not recycling garbage :) No ill will was intended and the article is inspiring. And I think we owe it to ourselves, our colleagues, and the work we do to be more conscious about using metaphors that will do the work for us out there that is needed: giving us credibility, professionalism, and positive images, IMHO. OK--back to curating!
