Tara Paux's insight:
"All the Worlds a Stage- Elizabethan Drama" reads historical information involving drama during this time (Elizabethan age). Indoor plays were preformed in halls, medieval guilds or mansions in the begining of the Elizabethian age. It was uncommon "to have a structure specially built for dramatic performances". Indoor and outdoor productions took place on a stage with no curtains, scenery or machinery. In the play "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Nick Bottom plays the characters of Pyramus, Thisbe and the Lion. It was not uncommon the one person plays more than one part/ character. Actors in the play were only played by men during this time. Women were allowed on stage later, after 1660. The play had two social groups, tradesmen (lower class) and the upper class. The tradesmen in the play appealed to the groundlings while the upper class appealed to the rich. After 400 years the Shakespearian plays that took place during the Elizabethan age are still popular.
A Midsummer Night's Dream is usually portraied as a comical play. This literary criticism questions the comedy of the play. Instead of Bottom and Titania falling in love being viewed a joke, it could be viewed as something different like a dream or a reality.
In this image Titania is sleeping, but the fairy, Puck casts a magic spell on her to make her fall in love with the first person she sees when she awakes. She is being put uder a spell because her husband Oberon hired Puck to do this so that he could have a little boy they watch over to become his slave. The boy will become Oberons slave because Titania will become destracted by her new love. Little does she know that when she wakes up she will fall in love with an ass.
Even though this video is a commercial for Levi jeans, it shows relation to the play. It spicificaly describes act 3 using characters from the commercial. The main guy in the ad is sopose to represent Bottom and the girl represents Titania. It shows how they fall in love but kind of a different senerio considering the settings are totally different. In the play the setting is in a forest, but here it takes place in the city.
The senerio in the ad is showing that the guy outside was about to get into some sort of trouble. The girl working inside the resturaunt heard the noise outside and and went outside to see what was happening and was attracted to his butt or his "bottom".
In the play Titania is sleeping and wakes up to an awful noise she finds beautiful. She sees an ass who is bottom and instantly falls in love because she was under a spell.
The senerios are different, but the concept is still there.
