ENGLISH, ELT, ICT, VISUALS's insight:
"The urge to modify camera images is as old as photography itself—only the methods have changed. Nearly every type of manipulation we now associate with digital photography was also part of the medium's pre-digital repertoire: smoothing away wrinkles, slimming waistlines, adding people to a scene (or removing them)—even fabricating events that never took place." "Horizons can be quite divisive, both in terms of composition and opinion. If used correctly, a horizon will either add to a composition or go unnoticed, however, if positioned poorly, it can become a competing element, distracting attention away from the main areas of interest. One of the main ‘rules’ you often see written regarding horizons is that they should never be placed in the centre of the frame, but positioned closer to a ‘third’. As with most rules, there are plenty of times when this can be completely disregarded, so here are a few guidelines to help you to decide where to position the horizon when composing your shot. [...]"
ENGLISH, ELT, ICT, VISUALS's insight:
So many times have I heard about rules to obey as for locating horizon lines on a picture (never in the middle, so 'they' say...) that most of these times, their uttering made me feel like disobeying ;) Awesome effects may definitely result from catching the line either low [as I've done here : https://picsnprints.wordpress.com/2012/09/08/electrique/ ] or high... Yet capturing it right in the middle of a picture may help the photographer achieve his goal as well. It'll be your choice : as long as he keeps on materialising his own look -targeting the aim he's chosen- the horizon line rule is one that a photographer may do without :o) Delete the scoop?

"Sun spots are seen as the moon moves into a partial eclipse position after reaching annularity during the first annular eclipse seen in the U.S. since 1994, May 20, 2012 in Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona. Differing from a total solar eclipse, the moon in an annular eclipse appears too small to cover the sun completely, leaving a ring of fire effect around the moon." There are many important photography terms that will help you understand the art. Visit HowStuffWorks to learn 10 important photography terms.
ENGLISH, ELT, ICT, VISUALS's insight:
All the more useful than these terms are explained in plain English ;o) Check this one : "White balance reveals an interesting difference between a camera and a human eye : a human eye has a human brain attached. When you look at a white object, your brain is actually interpreting the lighting cues around you and calculating that the object is white on the fly. If the object is under a blue light, it will really look blue, but your brain compensates for the color difference, so you'll see it as white. The camera does no such compensating unless you force it to do so, so if a white object is under a bluish light, the camera will record bluish pixels. Adjusting white balance helps force the camera to compensate for the fact that most lighting conditions aren't perfectly white. Many indoor lights have a yellowish tinge to them, while fluorescent lights have a bluish tint. Even natural light is a little bluer than you might think." At first I thought the pic had been 'photoshopped', but it hadn't... These genetically modified strawberries are "pineberries" that look like strawberries as far as shape is concerned. Yet, their red has turned to white and their pips' yellow-green... to red ! Besides, they're said to taste like pineapples. Such ice-age faded colour definitely contrasts with the 'classic' strawberry's red -guess which I'd rather crunch ? :o).

For Daniel Gordon’s latest series “The Green Line”, the artist used photography and collage as tools to create works referenced from Matisse’s well-known 1905 portrait of his wife titled “The Green Stripe” (La Raie Verte).
ENGLISH, ELT, ICT, VISUALS's insight:
"“I’m interested in taking ideas that were radical in Matisse’s day (collapsing space through the blending of foreground and background, multiple angles viewed at the same time, and Fauvist color and expression, among others) and moving them into a contemporary photographic space,” Gordon wrote via email" Delete the scoop?
