Illustrative Chart on Project Based Learning Vs Problem Based Learning | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Illustrative Chart on Project Based Learning Vs Problem Based Learning | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | À l'école au 21e siècle | Scoop.it

Project based learning and problem based learning are two didactic approaches to learning that are often used interchangeably to refer to the same thing: engaging students in authentic learning activities. This truism does not always hold true. In a learning task that is problem based, the focus is on finding solutions to the  problem posed  through applying learned strategies and in so doing the process of arriving at the solution is, in and of itself, an integral part of the overall learning taking place . Whether a learning activity is authentic or not does not really matter from a problem based learning perspective because often times 'fictitious scenarios' are purposefully designed to provide learners with a contrived environment to work on their ill-structured problems.

The real goal of the Hour of Code is to bring computer science courses into every school, making it part of the math and science core curriculum and already seems to be working.

It is National Computer Science Week, just in case you haven’t heard!  Code.org is giving every student in the US the perfect way to celebrate by organizing the Hour of Code, an event meant to give every student a taste of coding and help expose more students to computer programming. The site is packed full of resources and tutorials for students from Pre-K on up.

Digital Portfolios in the Age of the Read/Write Web (EDUCAUSE Review) | EDUCAUSE.edu | À l'école au 21e siècle | Scoop.it

Over the past two decades digital portfolios have emerged as a powerful tool for helping students organize, create, manipulate, design, evaluate, and present knowledge. As our classrooms become increasingly populated with digital natives, it is imperative that we educate them in their native language. This means not only working in digital media but also working as producers of information, collaborators, and self-directing learners. The digital portfolio in a format to be published openly online is an ideal means for applying technology to serve a larger-picture educational purpose, thereby helping our students flourish academically and personally.
