An academic affiliation or your self worth? Which is more valuable?

An academic affiliation or your self worth? Which is more valuable? | A is for Adjunct | Scoop.it

From The Hour of the Bewilderness » Blog Archive » An academic affiliation or your self worth? Which is more valuable?

After reading ABDMama’s comment it was clear that she was concerned as the ways in which academic publishers or conference organizers look at those not formally employed in academia. Is it more difficult for these people to publish? Are publishers or conference organizers looking at the scholarship or merely at the institutional affiliation? These questions were asked in reply to this post [How to do research: The Real Challenge for the University Sector] I thought that this is something to think about and even to write about.

So what conclusions did I come to? ....  My unofficial survey revealed that a university address doesn’t seem to matter much when you submit papers to publishers or conferences. What seems to be more important is how the individual submitting the paper or abstract feels about their status.
