Why Learning Through Social Networks Is The Future

Why Learning Through Social Networks Is The Future | A Educação Hipermidia | Scoop.it

Students Need Professional Learning Networks, Too

Learning to create, manage and promote a professional learning network (PLN) will soon become, if it’s not already, one of the most necessary and sought after skills for a global citizen, and as such, must become a prominent feature of any school curriculum.

Collaboration can be both a formal structure for learning activity but also an underpinning framework for engagement and fostering life-long learning.  Learning networks are part the new learning ecosystem and should be recognised and supported.

Ludificación y aprendizaje basado en juegos | A Educação Hipermidia | Scoop.it

Teacher Agency: Educators Moving from a Fixed to a Growth Mindset

Teacher Agency: Educators Moving from a Fixed to a Growth Mindset | A Educação Hipermidia | Scoop.it

It is a myth that we operate under a set of oppressive bureaucratic constraints. In reality, teachers have a great deal of autonomy in the work they chose to do in their classrooms. In most cases it is our culture that provides the constraints. For individual teachers, trying out new practices and pedagogy is risky business and both our culture, and our reliance on hierarchy, provide the ideal barriers for change not to occur.

Gaming is a great way to experience a story in a variety of ways, often choosing the story you would like to experience based on a set of given boundaries. Kind of like a choose your own adventure book, but typically with better graphics. that is not to say, however, that gaming replaces books, performance art, theatre, etc. Convergence isn't replacement.

"In this book, I suggest that to understand cities we must view them not simply as places in space but as systems of networks and flows. To understand space, we must understand flows, and to understand flows, we must understand networks—the relations between objects that comprise the system of the city. Drawing on the complexity sciences, social physics, urban economics, transportation theory, regional science, and urban geography, , I introduce theories and methods that reveal the deep structure of how cities function. “Michael Batty has followed a career that has made him the prime interpreter of urban modeling in all its forms. Now his remarkable work has become the foundation of a new science of urban flows and networks that uses big data and sharp theory as tools to dig deep into how and what cities are, and how they can be designed in better ways. This is the book that sets the benchmark that all others will have to follow.” —Nigel Thrift, Vice-Chancellor, University of Warwick

Lectures Didn't Work in 1350—and They Still Don't Work Today

Lectures Didn't Work in 1350—and They Still Don't Work Today | A Educação Hipermidia | Scoop.it

It’s all about engagement. I’ve heard things like a child’s attention span, in minutes, is equal to their age in years. That’s so not true. If children are engaged in something, they’ll spend hours on it. We have a 6-year-old grandchild who will spend hours working on Legos or Tinkertoys because she’s got something in her mind that she wants to build, and she’ll do it. If children aren’t paying attention, it’s not because of a decreased attention span—it’s because they aren’t given tasks that honor their dominant ways of learning.
