10 Wireframing and Prototyping Tools for 2013

10 Wireframing and Prototyping Tools for 2013 | A design journey | Scoop.it
Hans's insight:

Wireframes and other lo fi prototypes have been essential for designers in order to communicate ideas, validate designs and minimize risks of bad user experiences. But lately I have noticed an ongoing debate whether they are still useful when we are designing in multi device eco systems. In my opinion it's more important than ever to be able to produce rapid and experimental prototypes regardless your ability to code. Because designing in the browser will either limit the solution to your current skills, or force you to learn how to implement it, which will not be very cost efficient in an iterative process. And suddenly the focus is on technology instead of users, and that's why we need wireframes and other lo fi representations - to allow us to build without borders. Some great tools for mobile and responsive design would be appreciated though, and I can already see them coming in this list of software.

Feeling Comfortable with Wireframing

Feeling Comfortable with Wireframing | A design journey | Scoop.it
Hans's insight:

Wireframing is a broad method to communicate and validate ideas, it can appear in different shapes with changing fidelity for several purposes. Finding a comfortable way to visualize and process concepts is an essential ability for a designer. Wireframes are used when the requirements, content and information architecture is defined in order to bring conceptual ideas into reality. Personally I prefer to start producing rapid low fidelity sketches to gather feed back and evaluate a wide range of ideas ideas. When I find a solution that fulfills the stated requirements I add details for each iteration until the mock-ups are finalized.

Mobile prototyping: a new paradigm | .net magazine

Mobile prototyping: a new paradigm | .net magazine | A design journey | Scoop.it
Hans's insight:

Internet has been loaded with information since the commercialization in the late 90s. From that moment new design standards have been defined to make content as easy to access as possible. For a moment I was under the impression that desktop web design finally found a suitable shape for the medium; fixed grid systems, html5, css3, javascript, cross browser compatibility and clear visual guidelines improved the user experience. BUT then the mobile revolution came and suddenly we had reduced screen sizes, touch screen interfaces, gesture based interaction and new contexts of use. Designing for multiple web channels is a complex challenge and static, or even clickable prototypes are not sufficient. We need rapid prototyping tools that support responsive web design in varying fidelity for different devices and interaction technologies - in one solution. This article describes mobile prototyping as a new paradigm.
