Computer programmers  ( not Apple of course) had the practice of abbreviating the year to only the last two digits. As the year 2000 approached it was feared that everything would stop working at the time of the rollover from 99 to 00. The predictions were that long-working computer systems would break down when the ascending numbering of years "...97, 98, 99..." suddenly became invalid when we hit the year "00". People were stocking up and preparing for the impeding doom

 

"The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced it is confident the nations food supply is secure and it expects no shortages.We anticipate plenty of groceries on the shelf for Y2K and hereafter,...Dont forget nonfood supplies for comfort and safety. Bedding, blankets, clothes, tools and a flashlight with batteries are good to have ready."
