Explaining Creativity to Kids | A Children's Class with a Difference | Scoop.it
Parents and teachers often encourage kids to “use creativity.” However, creativity can be complex. Just telling children to use it may be met with silence. Or confusion. Some kids may wonder what creativity is! Here’s some basic information, along with two vivid explanations that will help them grasp the concept—and also understand why creativity is important.

Seeking Justice For Child Sexual Abuse Victims.

Seeking Justice For Child Sexual Abuse Victims. | A Children's Class with a Difference | Scoop.it
As parents we do everything in our power to ensure that our little bundle of joy is protected in our arms. We wrap our bodies and souls around our babies so that no hurt and disease can affect them. Some of us even sanitize our hands every time we pick our babies from the cradle. And then comes the day when we allow those little ones to walk away from the comfort of our lap to their preschools. With tears in our eyes we wave them goodbye, our hearts beaming with pride, watching them in their cute little uniforms, outside the gates of the preschool, a heaven, we have chosen carefully for them, where no harm can touch them. Where they will learn to achieve their dreams. But Imagine how will you feel as doting fathers and mothers when your three year old child comes and tells you that ‘ her private parts are hurting because someone in the preschool  has unsafely touched her ‘there’?’ How will you feel as parent when your 4 year old son comes and tells you that the ‘caretaker uncle in the school’ has touched his urine place (Penis). How will you feel as a parent when you  suddenly realize that the rashes around your child’s genital area where you applied the ointment few weeks back are actually the result of the constant sexual molestation she was going through. How will you feel as a mother or father, who noticed that their child comes home from the school in a different cloth regularly, but never in your dreams you would have thought that something horrendous is happening each time his clothes were changed. And how will you feel when you realize that all of this happened in that same preschool, the heaven, which you chose carefully for them, where no harm can touch them. Where they will learn to achieve their dreams.YOU will feel, cheated, disgusted, ashamed, seething, vengeful, unforgiving to yourself and world. Your world will come crashing down under your feet. You will feel so many negative emotions that it will be difficult for you to breathe. You will feel the burden of your own guilt for each day when you pushed your child to go to school while she was howling and resisting it. Because you never thought that some one can touch a child inappropriately. Because no child deserves to go through the pain and trauma of sexual molestation. No parents deserves to go through this heart wrenching pain.YET this unimaginable, heinous crime of mass molestation of children has recently happened in a very well known school of Bangalore India. While mostly children keep silent about such incident, 7 brave children chose to shatter the silence and break the taboo. They were 3-4 years old. And there were 30 such children. They told this horror story to their parents, police and magistrate about how they were everyday sexually molested by a school caretaker in a branded preschool in Bangalore. And yet  the school authorities didn't take responsibility and even denied the charges initially. THEY ARE STILL ROAMING FREE. Sadly ONLY 7 parents dared to come forward to fight it out through the system while fighting their own emotional demons.  These 7 brave parents of 7 brave kids chose to break the silence  to set an example and fight the school system to ensure PRESCHOOLS are safe in future for the kids who can't even speak full sentences. These 7 parents chose not to succumb to pressures because there are millions of toddlers who go to preschools in India! The lawyer who is ready to fight the case has subsidised his fee to ensure that justice is served. However most of these parents still do not have bandwidth to even pay the subsidised fee. They had already invested their live’s saving to get their children best of education, food and healthcare (We all do that). Their accounts are beyond exhausted. Last night I received a text  from one of the brave mother, she was on the verge of giving up because they cannot afford financially to fight the case anymore. They are already broke after initial legal processes and medical bills. As a mother and as a humanitarian I cannot let this happen. Sanrakshan Pte Ltd which bears the flag of safety of children and women cannot let this happen. Our children have spoken once and if we do not stand by them , they will never speak again. And as fellow humans we cannot let this happen. In a country like India SGD 20000 is a huge money. But all of us who come from the developed countries earning in dollars and cents, if we contribute a very little fraction of our monthly earnings as an encouragement to these parents who have chosen to fight the injustice, we will be nurturing their resilient human spirit. And we will positively transform the lives of those 7 children who chose to speak. Some of you might think, this is not my problem, this not my child and this is not my country. So why bother? But few years from now it won’t matter, which country you lived in, which car you drove, what first world problem you solved and how much money you saved. What will matter is that you made this world a better place because you transformed a child’s life. Objective of the cases filed by these 7 parents -1. The School Authorities get punished along with the culprit.2. Stricter laws are established for school authorities under whose supervision we send our children to study3. Encourage other parents to fight rather than hide these kinds of heinious crimesLet us help these parents raise 20000 SGD . So that they can continue their fight. Let’s keep these children in our prayers and let us all set an intention that the justice is served.                   Lots of love and gratitude to all of you.

13 Kids' Books That Help Teach Children About Empathy

13 Kids' Books That Help Teach Children About Empathy | A Children's Class with a Difference | Scoop.it
People are sharing their recommendations for books that help children  to develop empathy, as part of a campaign to highlight the power of storytelling.

To mark Empathy Day on Tuesday 13 June, (run by EmpathyLab, an organisation that works with schools, libraries and authors), many people took to Twitter to share a wide variety of books they believe to be “empathy boosting”.

Miranda McKearney chair of EmpathyLab told HuffPost UK: “Empathy is best learned young, and research shows that reading stories helps children develop it.

“Children learn through identifying with book characters to see things from someone else’s point of view, so as you read with your child, you can build their empathy skills at the same time.”

Maria Del Mar Londoño's curator insight, April 1, 8:30 PM
I really like this article and it makes me recall a text that I read in one class that talked about the 21 century skills that all teachers must have. Point number one that talks about being clear makes me remind of the importance of knowing how to give clear instructions as well as how important is to have well established the aim of the classes so we can build a really good lesson plan. On the other hand, I also consider very important feedback but must important how to provide it without interfering with our student´s feelings.
