This format can be used to tell the story of your relationship with any animal or human.  How wonderful would it be if more eulogies used a format like this.

When my last dog passed after an incredible 14 years, I passed along the sad information to all the people who knew the two of us by telling the story of our relationship from the time I picked him out of the SPCA line-up to the moment we had to say good-bye.  It generated so many great stories in return from others about their pets, loss, and/or they reminded me of stories I had forgotten.  It made things a little more bareable at that time.
