6-Traits Resources: Tag Galaxy: Writing Prompts from a world of images

6-Traits Resources: Tag Galaxy: Writing Prompts from a world of images | 6-Traits Resources | Scoop.it

This site asks you to enter a keyword and then assembles a planet of images using Flikr photos. I entered the word writing and then played with a threeD planet of pictures. Click on an image and it floats forward. This could be a great way to prompt journal writing or poetry. Fun to play with! Use it for some idea generation the next time around!

Lost my voice?  I’m not sure I ever found it in the first place.

We hear about finding one’s voice all the time (in the land of writers, that is), but just what does that mean?

Written by an award-winning practitioner, English Language Learners: Teaching Strategies that Work offers educators a five-step methodology for teaching this burgeoning population. Digital Writing and the Common Core | NWP Digital Is | 6-Traits Resources | Scoop.it

“Writing today,” say the authors of Because Digital Writing Matters, “is pervasively and generally digital; composed with digital tools; created out of word, image, sound, and motion; circulated in digital environments; and consumed across a wide range of digital platforms.” Many teachers are wondering, however, whether digital writing can align with the English Language Arts strand of the Common Core State Standards, now adopted by 45 states and the District of Columbia. Many Digital Is resources demonstrate that it can.

Resource: Developing Writers: A Workshop for High School Teachers | 6-Traits Resources | Scoop.it

From Annenberg Teacher Resources: ;8 1-hour videos.

Developing Writers: A Workshop for High School Teachers presents practical and philosophical advice for teaching writing, while examining issues every teacher faces — such as high-stakes assessments and dealing with differently abled students. Eight video programs feature teachers in diverse classrooms around the country who are helping their students grow as skilled and effective writers. Participants will observe how the teachers and their students work together to create writing communities. Professional writers will share their processes as they move from initial concepts to publication, and comments from researchers, theorists, students, and teachers add context. A workshop guide and Web site provide activities and additional information to help participants develop effective instructional strategies to bring back to the classroom.

20 Common Grammar Mistakes That (Almost) Everyone Makes | LitReactor | 6-Traits Resources | Scoop.it

Below are 20 common grammar mistakes I see routinely, not only in editorial queries and submissions, but in print: in HR manuals, blogs, magazines, newspapers, trade journals, and even best selling novels. If it makes you feel any better, I’ve made each of these mistakes a hundred times, and I know some of the best authors in history have lived to see these very toadstools appear in print. Let's hope you can learn from some of their more famous mistakes.

Charts and Diagrams Drawn by Famous Authors - Flavorwire | 6-Traits Resources | Scoop.it
Being the literary nerds that we are over here, we’re obsessed with everything about our favorite authors, and particularly the little scraps of writerly intention — things that give us a view into an author’s thought process and planning technique, or even just a peek at the way they see and order the world. Plus, we like to see that authors work out their thoughts with forced attempts at organization and scribbled-out ideas just like the rest of us.
