Gender Inequality HTS
Gender Inequality is the biggest obstacle for women around the world who want to be seen as equal to men. The book "Half the Sky" further delves into this subject and shows readers how innocent women are severly abused around the world and how one must take needs to stop this. People need to stand up for these poor females who are treated like objects and the world as a whole needs to take steps toward solving this global dilemma.

How Can We Jump-Start the Struggle for Gender Equality?
New York Times (blog)
After two steps forward, we were unprepared for the abrupt slowdown on the road to gender equality.
AM's insight:

I added this to my blog because it shows the need to end the gender discrimination obstacle by asking the question- how are we able to quicken the process of getting equality for all women? This is for the people around the world who strive to end the gender inequality in the world (anti- inequality activists). The authors of HTS are feminists who also want to end the struggle for women everywhere too.

Infographic: Gender Inequality in Hollywood (It's Worse than You ... | Gender Inequality HTS | Scoop.it
Gender inequality, it appears, has a "trickle down" effect that reduces salaries for top female stars and speaking roles for journeywomen actresses, fails to recognize women directors and screenwriters for their achievements ...
AM's insight:

This article made me realize the inferiority of women even in movie productions, which is why I decided to include it in this post. I think that people who do not realize the severity of the struggle that women under sexual abuse undergo everyday would benefit from this article. This relates to the HTS because it also shows the world what is happening in the countries where feminity is inferior.

Maternal mortality: A reduction in deaths from haemorrhage Medical Xpress The new report, "Maternal Mortality in France," coordinated by Inserm Unit U953, Epidemiological Research Unit on Perinatal Health and Women's and Children's Health,...
AM's insight:

I included this post because it shows how the maternal mortality rate can be lowered. I think that this would benefit  teenage to adult mothers who are terrified of dying from the birth of their child because it will tell them how to reduce the chances of this. I also think that if more people are informed about this, than the overall maternal mortality rate could decrease rapidly. This relates to HTS because it could help decrease the growing rates in the book from girls who are pregnant against their will.

Supermodel makes significant strides in curbing Malawi's maternal mortality rate | AMOR – Aide Mondiale Orphelins Réconfort | Gender Inequality HTS | Scoop.it

Video produced by CCTV AFRICA Malawi's maternal mortality is one of the highest across the world. However, one supermodel Tasha de Vasconcelos is making significant strides in helping women survive childbirth.

AM's insight:

I have included this in the blog post because it is important for people to see how even superstars take steps toward the struggle for gender equality. I want the people who see this, mostly people who are unaware of the women over the world's current problems, to benefit by being inspired by the article and led toward helping them too. The HTS relates to this because it also showed how people took steps towards stopping gender discrimination and ultimately lowering the maternal mortality rate.

Exploitation and Commerce: Sex Trafficking in South Africa | Fair Observer° | Gender Inequality HTS | Scoop.it
In South Africa, sex trafficking is a problem of corruption and patriarchy.
AM's insight:

I added this article into my blog because it shows the locations of the most sex- trafficking in the world. I think that this would benefit people that think that their life is the worst because they will realize that other people in the world have worst lives and endure everyday. The HTS is related to this because it also gives examples from the places in the world that have the most gender discrimination and sexual abuse.

Gender equality through the eyes of young women - Women's Agenda

Gender equality through the eyes of young women - Women's Agenda | Gender Inequality HTS | Scoop.it
Gender equality through the eyes of young women
Women's Agenda
In Mission Australia's 2013 Youth Survey young women ranked equity and discrimination as the number one issue facing the country.
AM's insight:

I have added this piece onto my page because it voices the unspeakable words of young women all over the world suffering from gender inequality. I think that mostly young women who are not able to talk aloud and rely on those who speak aloud (feminists) will benefit from this scoop. It is related to HTS because the book revolves around the fact that the biggest problem for women on a global basis is 'equity and discrimination'.

Gender inequality & sexism among top worries of girls

Three quarters of 11-21 year olds reveal that sexism affects most areas of their lives, with many worrying that gender discrimination will curtail their future choices.

Via bobbygw
AM's insight:

This was included because the article shows the fear of poor innocent and girls who are afraid of being subject to gender discrimination and sexual abuse. Many girls who secretly have these frightful thoughts would benefit from reading this because it would calm them down becaue they are not the only one and people out there will help them. This relates to half the sky because in the book also, many girls are paranoid because of this.

Anson Bidwelll's curator insight, December 5, 2013 5:42 PM

I included this article because it helps to show how women and girls are being discriminated against in even 4th stage countries like the UK. Anyone who thinks that in MDCs women are not being discriminated should read this article. This relates to HTS by showing that despite how far ahead of LDCs MDCs are, they are still not perfect.

Dandavikranth Reddy's curator insight, December 5, 2013 10:50 PM

This article is about how girls and ypung women provide their insights on how sexism and discrimination affect their choices now and in their lives. This article is on this page because it shows how girls and women are struggling everyday to cope with the lifestyle and discrimination being shown everyday around the world. This article benefits people who are victims like the women in the article, people who are trying to change the environment for these girls, and people who will try to motivate these young women to see the brighter side of the future and life. This is related to the book Half the Sky because some girls in the book were forced into prostitution or teases on their way to places. With that, the women have been continuing to get raped everyday or drop out from school or their workplaces.

AM's insight:

I chose this article because it gives stregnt to feminists and hope to women out there because it shows that there are people who stand up to gender inequality and want to end it as soon as possible. I think that this benefits feminists and women in need of salvation from sexual abuse. The book HTS also shows examples of the front line fighting, like this article is portaying.

AM's insight:

I chose this because it shows the truth about gender inequality even in holly wood. I think that people who are oblivious to their surrounding global problems and struggles and watch movies would benefit from this because it enlightens them that even holly wood discriminates the females. The HTS is related to this because it also gives examples of gender discrimination to show the readers what is going on currently.

AM's insight:

This blog is very important because it gives hope to the females of all ages out there that are living everyday in absolute terror due to sex- trafficking. I think that the people who would benefit from this blog post are females who are currently, will be, or were victims of sex- trafficking because it will give hope to themself or hope for the next generation (their children). In the book Half the Sky, the authors also show governments taking action against sex- trafficking.
