Guide to Creating Tech-Friendly Classroom Management Strategies

Guide to Creating Tech-Friendly Classroom Management Strategies | 3D Virtual Worlds: Educational Technology | Scoop.it
If you’re a teacher who grew up in the pre-Internet era, you understand how tech innovation has revamped the educational landscape. Gone are the days of the blackboard and mimeograph. Teachers today carry a heavier (and more complicated) toolbox than ever before. The question is, how efficiently are you using your tools? Inviting Students to

The greatest challenge before us is to make the classroom more tech-friendly. To do this is to set up specific management strategies. A tech friendly classroom goes beyond just a computer, wi-fi, and projector. A lot of pre-work needs to go into the use of technology in a classroom, and this includes due inclusion of how the teacher intends to use technology in the class in his lesson plan. Innovative use of technology includes using tablet computers to solve mathematical problems, using social networking sites for exchange or collaborative lessons, where for example you need to learn about the Geography of France while sitting in India. What better way than to befriend a French student and then excahnging information about each other's contry?

New Mesh Avatars Now Available in Second Life - Second Life

New Mesh Avatars Now Available in Second Life - Second Life | 3D Virtual Worlds: Educational Technology | Scoop.it

Today, we’re updating Second Life’s default avatar options with 24 brand new mesh avatars. You may have spotted a sneak peek at a few of these as Lindens tried them out recently, and starting today, you can start using them yourself!

These avatars are designed to give new users a more appealing set of choices as they start their time in Second Life. Based on the most popular avatars picked at registration, these new options are much better-looking and take advantage of technology incorporated into Second Life over the past year (like fitted mesh and materials) for a more modern feel.If you want to check out the new default avatars, just open up the Avatar Selector in the Viewer. Under the People tab, you’ll see a great variety of male and female mesh avatars to pick from. Under the Vampire tab, you’ll see those infamous creatures of the night along with some other monsters like zombies, werewolves, and winged beasts. (Tip: Make sure you’re running the latest Second Life Official Viewer for the optimal experience with these avatars.)Under the classic tab of the Avatar Selector, you will find many of the most popular classic default avatars. Although not all of the old options will be available in the Avatar Selector, you can still access them all in your inventory library under Library/Clothing/Older Outfits - so if you were partial to one of them, don’t worry.

Login to your Second Life account and meet the new mesh avatars, today!

Did Microsoft Buy Minecraft for eLearning?

Did Microsoft Buy Minecraft for eLearning? | 3D Virtual Worlds: Educational Technology | Scoop.it

"t’s officially a done deal: Microsoft has acquired Swedish company Mojang, developers of the wildly popular sleeper hit, Minecraft for $2.5 billion dollars. And while it’s unlikely that the acquisition will change Minecraft gameplay, there’s a strong case to be made for Minecraft application in an eLearning setting. In fact, Microsoft might be making a play for gamification as an education tool, both inside and outside the classroom. By getting their hands on Minecraft, Microsoft uncovers some of the ways the game can be used for eLearning."
