"The truth is that 3D Printing is not going to disrupt manufacturing in the next decade or two - maybe never. It's not faster, cheaper or simplier than traditional manufacturing techniques. It's much slower, order of magnitude more expensive and inherently more complex than almost all tried and true manufacturing methods. However, it does offer some really interesting opportunities to build things that would not have gotten built otherwise because of the volume requirements needs to support traditional techniques. It will enable some of the 'long tail' of physical manufacturing, but it certainly will not disrupt traditional manufacturing"
