It's all about contents, but in my opinion television set is one of the screens available for contents.

Mattia Nicoletti's comment, May 20, 2013 2:17 AM
Gary, in your opinion Mary-José Monpetit refers to tv set or television (contents for television)? because tv set in my idea is one of the available screens. In a transmedial point of view tv screen content tells the leading part of the story but even in this case is just a screen.
Julie Eckersley's curator insight, May 20, 2013 7:26 PM

TV is no longer a device, it is now content around which we can build communiites. I like that thinking @garyhayes

Quote "

THE QUESTIONS REMAIN

Still many questions remain, including: who are the likely winners and losers in the second screen market? Shay Fan a member of the marketing team at Miso, a social TV platform, says, “Success will come when someone figures out the magic formula for ‘stickiness’ – something that will make users want to stay and interact with content. With so much competing for our attention, it will be a difficult, crowded industry.”

Toeman adds, “I think all the traditional players will remain winners for quite some time to come, it's their game to lose really. This is a big challenging space, and I think success will come from the companies who best understand what consumers actually want to do with their time and how they enjoy watching TV. Those who are trying to shape or shift behaviours will have an uphill battle, as well as those who pay too much attention to hype, and not enough to reality.”

Wrote an article looking at transmedia in the TV industry; is the term becoming redundant or not?

Dr. Pamela Rutledge's comment, May 7, 2013 10:48 AM
In terms of information processing and the human brain, everything is transmedia (i.e. we form our understanding of every narrative in an additive fashion from all kinds of multi-sensory input.) The trouble may be that the defining features of a 'transmedia storytelling' experience make too long a laundry list of not-very-sexy words: coherence, coordination, and cocreation, i.e. coordinated participatory storytelling with the media part understood. Digging a semantic hole!

2) Development and Accomplishment

3) Expression of Creativity and Feedback

4) Ownership and Possession

5) Social Pressure and Envy

6) Scarcity and Impatience

7) Curiosity and Unpredictability

8) Loss and Avoidance

Das Phänomen des "Binge-watching"s (Komakucken?!) und "Hyperserien"

“I’ve always said that I don’t see my show as serialized so much as hyperserialized,” explains Vince Gilligan, creator of AMC’s Breaking Bad. “That is something that, honestly, I wouldn’t have been allowed to do 10 or 15 years ago.”

"And that’s ultimately the biggest difference between the Hyperserials and the legendary shows that spawned them: a purer, more intense focus on one linear, series-long plotline. Hyperserials tend to do away with recaps, teasers, and exposition of any kind. They make even less sense when viewed out of order"

Rogério Rocha's curator insight, May 20, 2013 7:23 AM

IN A certain sense, all television is addictive. This should be pretty obvious, given that Americans watch more than five hours a day, on average. At that rate, a person who lives to the age of 80 will spend 21 percent of his or her adult life—the equivalent of 4,175 days, or nearly 13 years—in front of the tube.

Making Big Data Actionable
As we move toward a semantic web, a web of understanding, everything changes. In this excellent post from Mark Van Rijmenam (@VanRijmenam) the coming Big Bang between Big Data (knowing what your customers are up to) and gamification (creating gamified rewards to shape behavior) is explored.

Mark points out those GAMES generate BIG DATA. Imagine the matrix. You can know what customer segments and personas respond to what kinds of rewards. If you are an Ecom person replace the word "rewards" with offers to understand the immediate benefit of mining gamification’s Big Data.

Mark's pieces is very pro-gamification (as I am). There is a group who decry gamification as mouse in maze wastes of time. Such analysis belittles gamification, the application of game theory to LIFE and marketing, and human nature. I don't feel LESS of a person because I'm competitive and enjoy rewards.

In fact I'm working with the amazing team at Atlantic BT to "gamify" cancer right now for our http://www.curecancerstarter.org crowdfunding cancer research website. Is cancer a game? As a cancer survivor I would never suggest such a trite analogy, but having had chemo doesn't change how much I enjoy playing games (except DURING chemo which sucks pretty much).

To those gamification / marketing naysayers I say read Mark's article and then tell me how what you plan to do is half as exciting. BTW, no one said gamification is the only cool thing that works, but I gamify so therefore I am :). Marty

This is what I'm talking about.

Keep It Simple Sweety! (a famous quote by the late and greatest entrepreneur of them all - Mary Kay Ashley!)

Look how far we have come in a short 20 years. My goodness, they have flown fast by for me.

Can you even imagine where we will be in the next 20 years? OMG! Doesn't it give you incentive to stay as health as possible to see where we are in 2033?

We have 3D printers which is a mind-blower for those of us who watched Star Trek in the 60's and thought replicators to be some kind of fairy tale. They aren't anymore!

I'm still waiting for "beam me up Scotty". And, as God is my witness, I want to travel in space on the Virgin space craft. If someone were granting my wish - that would be my number one. Travel in space.

Keep your feet on the ground, your head in the stars and remember to dream a little bigger each day.

Warmly,

Susan Daniels

Quote "To that end, the team developed an iPad app that uses motion tracking technology to "map" a user interface onto different parts of an object. The example we saw was a simple radio with a a pair of dials and a speaker, and when the iPad's camera was pointed at it, a circular interface along with a menu system popped up that cannily tracked the radio. From there, Huen mapped various songs onto different positions of the knob, allowing him to control his playlist by moving it -- a simple, manual interface for selecting music. He was even able to activate a second speaker by drawing a line to it, then "cutting" the line to shut it off. We're not sure when, or if, this kind of tech will ever make it into your house, but the demo we saw (see the pair of videos after the break) seemed impressively ready to go.
