As a one-to-one iPad teacher, I used the original version of Toontastic with my students so I’m so excited about today’s new release!

Available for both Android and iOS devices, Toontastic 3D gives students the power to easily create their own cartoon. The problem we have encountered is that it won't work on our ipad 3s or our ipad mini 1s.  We were really looking forward to using this at our school. What a disappointment.

Westworld  is a game. These days, thanks to ubiquitous smartphones and technology, everything is a game. Westworld's game is operating on many levels simultaneously including: 

Surface where those on "vacation" wreck havoc on robotsRobot on Robot game wondering who will winThe corporation game wondering who will be the hero and keep their jobsRobots vs. Humans with a hard rain about to fall on greedy, violent humansThe game within the game


When Ed Harris scalped a robot finding a maze the game within the game was exposed. Harris' character is a thirty year Westworld veteran. 

Viewers are left wondering if Harris is rogue and on an unanticipated quest or if he is part of the "infinite" progression of the game. Planned or unplanned Harris is a master at the gruff voice and steely stare. 

On the web everything is a game. Your customers want to complete, cooperate and join. Are you asking for help? Do you know your movement? Westworld's creators are playing many games all at once, and doing so brilliantly, with grace and joy. Your or my website should be so lucky. 

I'll try to remember to craft multi-level games in the e-commerce sites Curagami helps design. You should steal Westworld's Game within a Game idea for your web design.

With Pokemon Go, Google Cardboard and Google Expeditions making virtual reality the hottest thing in tech, teachers may be wondering how they can capitalize on the trend in the classroom. Imagine studying underwater ecosystems and taking the whole class scuba diving with just a smartphone and a $6 headset.

The benefits of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) include increased engagement, appeal to visual learners and shared experience among students. Although the immersive experience is enhanced with a headset, the 360-degree experience is still worth exploring. Teachers can take advantage of many of the VR apps using the individual laptops, iPads or smartboards already in the classroom. While VR is changing quickly, the resources below are a good starting point.

Imagination is often associated with childhood, but that doesn’t mean the process is simple. Conjuring images that one has never seen before is more complex than it seems, requiring the brain to reconfigure images it can readily identify in new ways.

In one hypothesis of the imagination network, the prefrontal cortex plays a crucial function as coordinator, signaling different networks of neurons representing images that wouldn’t normally be associated together, to fire at the same time. Called “mental synthesis,” some researchers now believe the infrastructure for life-long imaginative pursuits may be laid during childhood.

This TED-Ed video explains in more detail what scientists think is going on in the brain when our imaginations are at work.

Mixed reality takes place not only in the physical world or the virtual world, but is a mix of reality and virtual reality, encompassing both augmented reality and augmented virtuality.” While MR experiences can definitely occur on a smartphone, headsets will likely control this space with a more immersive experience. Currently, Microsoft’s HoloLens, is the most popular MR device in development. It can accurately mix in digital objects into your existing environment, as it can scan the room and understand the space it is in."
