Disney have just dropped their first full trailer for Oz The Great and Powerful, next year’s lavish, epic reworking of a fantasy classic.*
There’s a lot more plot in this new trailer, and it up-ends some previous assumptions about how things were going down. For example, the Wicked Witch seems to co-exist alongside Evanora and Theodora, so it seems there’s more of a Jekyll and Hyde component than I previously believed.
It looks there’s supposed to be an element of mystery to the Wicked Witch’s identity. Oops. I think I’ve been spoiling that for a few months now. Better stop…
Yes, that all appears to take place in a fantasy world that bends the normal rules of physics, most often optics. Not quite the way Peter Jackson handles a fantasy epic, for example, but this is Oz, after all.
*As opposed to Alice in Wonderland, 2010′s lavish reworking of a fantasy classic, or Maleficent in 2014. It’s getting to be a bit of a thing over at Disney.
