The founder of the University of Nigeria believed that there was need to train Nigerians locally, and sufficient in number for the formidable task of information and guiding contemporary and future generations. On the basis of this philosophy, the University had as one of its original curricula a degree offering in communication education.visit unn.edu.ng

Innovations in Education - Understanding Content Curation

Innovations in Education - Understanding Content Curation | Content Curation for Education | Scoop.it

Paraphrasing Robin Good’s comment (http://d20innovation.d20blogs.org/2012/07/07/understanding-content-curation/) on this valuable post, Nancy, the author, succeeded in dissecting the key value-creation traits of curation and their relevance to the future of education.
Both students and teachers can learn through content curation of a topic. Robin reminds us that curating requires an immersion into the topic, which implies learn to research, verify, question, analyze and understand the relationships between the different information items involved.

The Three S’s of Content Curation: Seek, Sense, Share

The Three S’s of Content Curation: Seek, Sense, Share | Content Curation for Education | Scoop.it

Content curation is a three-part process: Seek, Sense, and Share.

Finding the information or “seeking” is only one third of the task.  Making sense of the information is just as important. However you create meaning, but it has to support your organization’s communications objectives or your professional learning goals. Finally, sharing is about giving the best nuggets of content to your audience in a format that they can easily digest.

Putting content curation into practice is part art form, part science, but mostly about daily practice.

How to use content curation in your class

How to use content curation in your class | Content Curation for Education | Scoop.it

Instructors are information curators. At iTteachU (University of Alaska), this is how teachers are using content curation tools in the classroom to:

- create group activities;

- organize and disseminate new content as a sort of digital handout to students in online and flipped classrooms;

- collect and share professional reading materials with students;

- foster discussion about current events;

- encourage students to become both content creators and curators;

- connect to experts outside class and to the world knowledge base;

- critique information available on the web. teach students to curate social media;

- help students gain credibility and exposure;

- keep track of online research efforts;

- create reading lists;

- help students gain access to the ‘collective intelligence’ of the Internet;

What about you? Do you use curation tools for personal or pedagogical purposes? Let us know. Share your experience on curation with us.

The Official Content Curation Tools Universe Map

The Official Content Curation Tools Universe Map | Content Curation for Education | Scoop.it

Universe Map of all the tools about content curation

Robin Good: Everytime I see a new post or article claiming to list the best content curation tools I know I am in for some disappointment.

Most of these lists just pick up names from other lists without even bothering to check, test or verify what these tools actually do, whether they are still available. Unfortunately the rush to put out "curated" list of tools and services has created more misinformation than useful lists.

But if you, like me, are on the lookout for new and effective tools to curate your own content or the one of your customers, I have created a comprehensive map of all the curation tools available online and I keep it fresh and updated almost on a daily basis.

The map presently lists over 250 content curation tools which you can navigate much more easily than it was possible on my earlier versions of this map.

On the right side of the map you will find all of the news and content curation tools available online today. On the left side, you can find bookmarking, link lists builders, clippers and lots of tools to operate with RSS feeds (which are still at the heart of a curator's job).

Full map: http://bit.ly/ContentCurationUniverse

Share it.
