Like many states, Indiana has experienced a substantial decline in enrollment in teacher prep programs.

Vikki Coleman's curator insight, August 3, 3:41 PM
This article is a great read. As administrators we must go the extra mile to encourage our new teachers and let them know that they have a support system. New teachers will fail at some things but we must let them know that it is okay and assist them in correcting their problems.

Action Research: The Ultimate Problem-Solving Strategy for Educators - InformED | 21st Century Literacy and Learning | Scoop.it

According to Sagor, action research can be adopted by an individual teacher, a collaborative group of colleagues sharing a common concern, or an institution’s entire faculty. These three different approaches to organising for research serve three compatible, yet distinct, purposes: creating reflective teachers; building professional cultures; and making progress on institutional priorities.

Copyright & education: innovation made difficult

Copyright & education: innovation made difficult - copyright untangled - Medium

High-quality education is fundamental for an innovative society. To accomplish this, a permanent dialogue is needed between the educational field, developers of learning materials, government, and society. Many projects that aim to foster innovations in education are isolated from daily educational practices.

'Time to deal with the growing gap between what employers want and schools offer' | LEARNing To LEARN | eSkills

'Time to deal with the growing gap between what employers want and schools offer' | LEARNing To LEARN | eSkills | 21st Century Literacy and Learning | Scoop.it
In this ever-changing battleground between the present and future, few areas of instruction in our schools are as important as the career advice we give to the young.

Society has become used to statements about schools having to prepare children for jobs that don’t yet exist, or the challenge posed to educators by the exponential growth of knowledge, particularly in the fields of technology and nanotechnology, on what content to keep and what to discard.

"Children are now likely to have numerous changes of jobs in their lifetimes that will require different skills and aptitudes than those of their parents."

The warnings, after all, are not new: it is 23 years since Dr William Daggett wrote that "the gap is getting wider and wider between what our children need and what they are leaving school with; not because we are not working hard, but because society is changing faster than our schools."
