How Teens Do Research in the Digital World

How Teens Do Research in the Digital World | 21st Century Literacy and Learning | Scoop.it

Three-quarters of AP and NWP teachers say that the internet and digital search tools have had a “mostly positive” impact on their students’ research habits, but 87% say these technologies are creating an “easily distracted generation with short attention spans” and 64% say today’s digital technologies “do more to distract students than to help them academically.”

These complex and at times contradictory judgments emerge from 1) an online survey of more than 2,000 middle and high school teachers drawn from the Advanced Placement (AP) and National Writing Project (NWP) communities; and 2) a series of online and offline focus groups with middle and high school teachers and some of their students.

Is Content Curation in Your Skill Set? It Should Be

Is Content Curation in Your Skill Set? It Should Be | 21st Century Literacy and Learning | Scoop.it

Curation is a term that is rapidly growing in popularity and is directly impacting the world of workplace learning and performance. In a world where the amount of information available to workers doubles every 18 to 24 months, it is impossible to keep up with the seemingly endless supply of it.

New Study: Undivided Brain & Hemispheric Function

New Study: Undivided Brain & Hemispheric Function | 21st Century Literacy and Learning | Scoop.it

"In the present study, new techniques -- not present 50 years ago -- begin to allow for an understanding of how the normal, undivided brain integrates the special functions of each half brain. It is a new beginning and very exciting....This study shows that the strength of communication across the brain changes dynamically, when information is exchanged between the right and left hemispheres via the corpus callosum, which connects both sides of the brain."

Struggling with educators lack of technology fluency

Struggling with educators lack of technology fluency | 21st Century Literacy and Learning | Scoop.it

It's 2012. Technology suffuses everything around us. The Internet and Internet browsers have been pretty mainstream for ===> at least a decade. <===

And yet, I continually run into significant numbers of educators who still don't know how to work their Internet browser. They struggle with copying and pasting. They get confused just clicking between 2 or 3 different browser tabs. They don't conceptually understand the difference between their browser's Google search box and the box where they can actually type in the URL and get there directly. They have no idea that they can right-click on things like hyperlinks or images. And so on… [And this is just the Internet browser. I'm not even talking about individual software programs or online tools.]

Read more, a MUST:

Hi +Tracee Orman, yes I so understand what you mean! They nod, smile and yet still don't put anything into practice in the classroom.

Webinar Recording and MS PowerPoint

Webinar Recording and MS PowerPoint | 21st Century Literacy and Learning | Scoop.it

Webinar has become most popular method for communicating your idea to large audience. Numbers of webinars are rapidly expanding, but quality is getting affected. Webinar is all about recording presentations so that people could review it later. Affecting quality doesn’t mean that your presentation quality will be deteriorated; it is in the sense of providing information...

"Webinar is all about recording presentations so that people could review it later." Assolutamente no! Si tratta di qualcosa di molto più complesso e articolato!
