For the past several weeks, I have been preparing a series of workshops for school and community leaders who are ready to embrace social media and explore the powerful ways new social technologies and platforms can be used in classrooms and schools.

It is always improtant to think about the purpose and the student's technological abilities. I see all too often with adult learning presenters overestimate the abilities of the learners. Delete the scoop?

A summary of the results from the 2012 Student Engagement Survey administered by the Learning Achievement Coalition of Oakland County, Michigan.
The survey was given to Teachers and 8th grade students in 13 middle schools in Oakland County Teacher surveys = 369 Students = 2,722
The results indicate that student and teacher perceptions differ on a variety of important measures. Most glaring is about relationships: teachers tend to focus on the group; students want to be known as individuals.

Technology and Teaching is not an either/or scenario but a both/and. Clever, considered integration of technology into the classroom environment and continued PD opportunities for teachers is key.

"The Wall Street crowd wants us to think of education in terms of means – which usually means finding ways to spend less – rather than ends. But when it comes to education, the “ends” are our children. And the means we choose for them, either consciously or through indifference, reveal who we really are as a people." Delete the scoop?
