These 7 sights may not be new to you but this is a great place for them to sit as a reminder. The only one that would not be applicable within our district would be the Microsoft site (since we are Google only).

I really like his "SOLE" concept. My students do as well. I use his "Whole in the Wall" concept to challenge my students to not wait for teachers when they want to learn something new.

Adam Heckler writes:

" The worst part about it is that the technology world moves so fast and changes so rapidly that the jargon and slang is extremely hard to keep up with, even for people who try to pay close attention.

So today I thought I’d bring you a mini-encyclopedia or mini-dictionary of sorts, where I’ll lay out some of the more confusing technology terms that educators will encounter on a regular basis. I’ll do my best to explain them as well, so you can at least sound knowledgeable if you are, say, stuck in a conversation with someone who knows a lot about technology. Here we go!..."

Timeline of Educational Technology

It is a conglomerate term that suggests an updated teaching pedagogy, a transition to a student centered classroom and a combination of tools that are meant to facilitate learning. Technology alone cannot fix a broken lesson. Advanced computer-aided technology may however inspire a revolution in education that is situated in an authentic context and promotes the tenets of distributed cognition. The walls of our future classrooms are coming down and in their place a global collective intelligence will surmount. What is the future of educational technology? To answer this, you must begin with the past.

Something to reflect on as we aim to integrate more technology into our course offerings.

Rebecca Ferlazzo's curator insight, May 12, 2013 9:27 PM

An important point to remember when we are considering using technology in the classroom. The integration of technology can be a help in the classroom while simply using technology can become a hinderance. So where do we make that distinction?

James Buchanan's curator insight, June 5, 2013 11:47 PM

This article is about digital technology and how it is used and integrated. Are we truly USING technology when it is not integrated? When we ask for assessment that is presented with powerpoint, for example, we could just as easily ask them to write it in a book or make a poster. Digital technology should be used to facilitate collaboration and build high level thinking skills, that is how learning occurs.

This is really the way we need to look toward our education future. I mean really have we not done the teach them set information then test them design over and over again? Just switching that to new gadgets really isn't change in a big way that will really inspire learning. Online open access to knowledge o could really inspire everyone to go beyond their set text book limits. Teachers need to be trained and inspired to find ways to implement these many new tools in creative personalized ways.
