Carol Dweck on the power of "Yet"

It's just one little word, but says world-renowned Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck, it has the power to inspire your child to do incredible things.

Via Beth Dichter
Beth Dichter's curator insight, August 14, 2013 9:28 PM

Carol Dweck has written about mindset, specifically the difference between growth mindset and fixed mindset (and you can search these terms on this Scoop.it). This short (less than 1 minute) video looks at a three letter word and how it helps us see that a student has a growth mindset. Listen and learn.

Dico Krommenhoek's curator insight, August 16, 2013 7:36 AM

Dit ga ik zeker gebruiken. 'Nog' (niet) goed ergens in zijn. Yet maakt dit wel mooier, omdat je het na de uiting van een leerling kunt plaatsen...

Tony Meehan's curator insight, April 18, 9:21 AM

How many of our learners come with the fixed view that they are "no good at maths", "don't get English" etc? Well, this is a good solid growth mindset come-back: " you don't get it yet......."

Al mejor estilo MOOC (Massive Online Open Course) Yotube publica cursos online.

wanderingsalsero's curator insight, May 31, 2013 10:27 PM

I WILL be taking this.  Sounds like a great idea.  I'm convinced that a lot of the stuff the 'gurus' put in their courses (the ones they charge for) is freely available somewhere.  In the case of YouTube, I know for a fact that they publish a LOT of good stuff that's totally free....e.g. the YouTube Creators Playbook (that I found over a year ago).

I am also convinced that understand just this one simple, well-known tool of YouTube is (all by itself) a highly marketable skill.  I'll bet if you walked into 10 businesses and just said, "Hi, my name is Art Williams.  I'm a YouTube consultant.  Are you doing anything with YouTube to build your business?" it would lead to several people expressing interest.

I think the key to making that kind of prospecting work would be to have several different 'products' or services available.  Some people will need to be nurtured for a bit before they finally give you some real business....kinda like going into a Denny's and ordering an iced-tea first and then deciding that you really are hungry.

Ed Hill's curator insight, January 6, 5:13 PM

Video is a fast and involving way to build engaging content. Here's an online course from YouTube.

YouTube: Easily create video intros and outros

YouTube: Easily create video intros and outros | 21st Century Literacy and Learning | Scoop.it

If you use YouTube playlists, to organise and manage videos, you may wish to try out a new feature which will enable you to add intros and outros to  the videos in the playlist to " weave individual videos together into a bigger story"

You can create these either as recorded 'to camera' pieces using your built in webcam or as text intros, there are a number of different styles and background effects to choose from. There is also an option to add background music.

The tool can be found in your Playlist settings in the Video Manager, click: Edit Playlist to use.

If students are creating playlist this facility might help them to think crtically about the content and sequences in a playlist.
