A Simple Way to Start a Hangout - YouTube

by Michelle Pacansky-Brock

"Demonstrates how to start a Hangout and invite 9 others even those NOT in your Circles. A great workflow for educators using Hangouts. Note: This video does not demonstrate Hangouts on Air (just regular Hangouts ... no recording or public viewing).

"This tutorial was created with Movenote (a free, easy to use tool!)."

YouTube Capture- A Practical iPad App for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

YouTube Capture- A Practical iPad App for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | 21st Century tools | Scoop.it

YouTube Capture is definitely a must have iPad app for teachers and students. This app is developed by Google and, unlike the basic YouTube app, YouTube Capture allows users to record videos and upload them instantly and right from their iPad or phones and Instagram.

Some of the fantastic features that distinguish YouTube Capture from the rest of crowd is the fact that it allows users to make use of YouTube’s stabilization, trimming, and automatic colour correction features – something that other video upload apps don’t. Another perk is the time limit which isn’t just a few seconds. In fact, you can record as long as your typical YouTube video would last, so all you really need to worry about is your Internet speed. Furthermore, you can upload and simultaneously share your videos with nearly all social media services as you go.

"Aurasma is an augmented reality application that allows you to overlay any video or image on top of anything that your tablet, cell phone, or any other mobile device can scan with its camera. Using Aurasma is very much like using a QR code reader. In order to activate the overlayed image or video, the object will be scanned using the Aurasma app.  Joseph covered using Aurasma in our iPad Appy Hour Webinar. Many of the demos you will see on the Aurasma site are for advertising but you can use these skills in a number of fun and exciting ways."

12 Principles Of Collaboration In Learning - TeachThought

12 Principles Of Collaboration In Learning - TeachThought | 21st Century tools | Scoop.it

"Recently on westXdesign–via scoopit–we found an interesting graphic about naming 12 principles of collaboration.

Collaboration is among the most-often promoted fluencies of 21st century learning (along with creativity and communication). However, there are very few frameworks or models that exist to support the development of better collaboration forms. As it is, in many K-12 learning environments, collaboration is limited to teacher-created grouping, or more scattered project-based learning groups that converge on a single project and thus a single goal.

The following principles of collaboration (seemingly created for businesses but clearly applicable to learning) push that idea a bit further–with some important emphases on the individual, including:"

46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom

Infographics are interesting–a mash of (hopefully) easily-consumed visuals (so, symbols, shapes, and images) and added relevant character-based data (so, numbers, words, and brief sentences).

The learning application for them is clear, with many academic standards–including the Common Core standards–requiring teachers to use a variety of media forms, charts, and other data for both information reading as well as general fluency. It’s curious they haven’t really “caught on” in schools considering how well they bridge both the old-form textbook habit of cramming tons of information into a small space, while also neatly overlapping with the dynamic and digital world.

What Personalized Learning Really Means For Modern Teachers

What Personalized Learning Really Means For Modern Teachers | 21st Century tools | Scoop.it

added by Jennifer Kelly

It’s Not All About Technology

"Many people think that Personalized Learning is all about technology. It is not, although technology makes it more accessible in over-crowded classrooms. If an individual student has Internet access, that student can work independently while the teacher facilitates an in-depth discussion with a small group at another skill level. Technology empowers the teacher to keep a larger number of students at different levels moving forward simultaneously.

"Personalized Learning is also about improving the ability to assess student’s skills or growth in real time, rather than at the end of a unit or semester when it could be too late to redirect. Again, technology helps, but it is more about changing the mindsets of teachers, parents and students about how skills are measured and when. In addition, that ongoing assessment enables teachers and parents to better communicate about a child’s needs."
