I like number 1 and 7. We need to begin the reasons we choose technology and what it can help accomplish. We demonstrate our caring when we do this.

Teachers Embrace Digital Learning Strategies | MindShift

Teachers Embrace Digital Learning Strategies | MindShift | 21st Century tools | Scoop.it

Today is the second annual Digital Learning Day, designated to bring attention to the benefits of technology for learning. As part of the effort, PBS LearningMedia has released a survey showing that 74 percent of teachers say educational technology benefits their classroom in many ways, including the ability to reinforce and expand content, motivate students, and respond to a variety of learning styles. Given these numbers, and despite increasing access, it’s not surprising that 68 percent of teachers still want more access to technology in the classroom. That number goes up to 75 percent of teachers in low-income schools.

No mention of connecting classrooms to the world-- one the most important uses of technology in the classroom-- but at least the Russians get a shout-out.

Khitam A Al-Utaibi's curator insight, February 13, 2:09 PM

I appreciate teachers' initiating the change with their students in the classrooms. I hear them telling the official systems "WE'RE NOT WAITING FOR YOU TO CHANGE, WE ARE MOVING TOWARDS THE FUTURE WITH OUR STUDENTS".

If official education systems did not take qualitative steps towards better 21st century education, soon we will see them in chaos, living dark ages of ignorance, rigidness, and limited minds!

Capture, Organize and Publish Your Curated Content Collections with Clipboard

Capture, Organize and Publish Your Curated Content Collections with Clipboard | 21st Century tools | Scoop.it
Robin Good's curator insight, April 1, 10:52 AM

In my humble opinion, Clipboard is the best capture and clipping tool for curation work that you can use today.  This is the real Pinterest on steroids. This free web app allows you to easily grab any text, image, area or full web page from any web site and to save it in your collection.

To be specific "you can clip text, photos, animations, videos, or all of the above mixed together. You can clip entire web pages or strip them down to just text. You can drag-and-drop images and text files from your desktop to Clipboard. You can create your own notes directly in Clipboard and save them as clips. You can also - if you are using a Google Chrome browser - bookmark entire PDF web pages (but you cannot clip sections of PDF files)."

The Clipboard browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox and the generic bookmarklet which can work on any browser is a little technology gem, making the capture work an absolute breeze.

Clipboard allows your collections to be set for public or private use, and it makes it easy to invite you other people that you want to contribute to your curation work.

Clips can be tagged, commented, annotated and shared with specific users (via mentioning their name handle). Clipboard collections can be easily shared on all major social networks, or embedded in any web site or blog.

On the display and navigation front good news too. Collections can be viewed in one of three possible modes (tile, item and list view).

Free to use.

With over 10 million users, Pinterest has rocketed to pop-culture fame since its launch in beta in March 2010. This rapid growth makes it the fastest growing social media site of the past year. Educators have caught on to Pinterest in a big way.
