As technology moves along words that were once part of the lexicon may become endangered as new technology takes over. How many students know what a floppy disk is or have 'dialed' a phone? This infographic has looked at vocabulary and places words in the following categories:

* Endangered words

* Words with updated meanings

* Social media and messaging

* Tech terminology of the future

Check out the poster and see if you agree or disagree with the choices. What would your students think? Are there words they would add or delete? This could become a fun activity and perhaps you could create your own infographic.

Three Word Thursday: A Weekly Multimedia Mash-up

Three Word Thursday: A Weekly Multimedia Mash-up | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it

You know what day it is, right? Nope, it’s not Throwback Thursday—although it could be. Just not in my Multimedia I class. Instead this day of the week means it’s time for another edition of our weekly project known as Three Word Thursday.

So, here’s how it works… Every Thursday my students are responsible for taking a photo or shooting a video clip. The rules for doing so are pretty simple: Their job is not only to create original media, but to add three words to the visual as well. This text can be about any topic of their choosing including but not limited to how they feel, an activity, person/people, an event, etc.—as long as it’s G-rated, of course!

Generate Customized Social Media Icons with Fontmeme

Generate Customized Social Media Icons with Fontmeme | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it

There are all kinds of really neat sites on the web where font addicts (like me) can fulfill their next typeface fix. One of these places is Fontmeme, a resource in which users can generate text images utilizing fonts of different styles including those found in logos, movie posters, TV shows, album covers and much more.

Of all of the really cool feature within Fontmeme, the one that most interested me is the social media icon maker. Why? Because even though these symbols are displayed all over the Internet to promote such things as Facebook fan pages, Twitter profiles and RSS feeds to name a few, it is sometimes difficult to find the ideal icon with the right size and/or color for a blog, website or app.

Travel the Egyptian Pyramids with Google Street View

Travel the Egyptian Pyramids with Google Street View | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it

In my life prior to becoming a full-time geeky girl, I was a sixth grade teacher. Throughout those 17 years, my favorite subject to teach was social studies. Within this content area, I loved, loved to share the knowledge (and excitement) I have about the ancient Egyptians. I was—and still am—particularly fascinated with the mummification process and even more so, the Pyramids of Giza.

That said, imagine my delight when I opened my browser to “Google” something, and I got a load of the latest tech gem my favorite search engine has to offer.

Morfo + Aurasma = Augmented Reality Book Trailers - iPad Apps for School

Morfo + Aurasma = Augmented Reality Book Trailers - iPad Apps for School | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it
Last week at the ACTEM conference I showed some folks possible uses for the Morfo 3D Faces app and the Aurasma iPad app.

Morfo 3D Faces is an iPad app that you can use to create a talking picture of person’s face. You can take a picture of a person or you can take a picture of a picture of a person (for example, taking a picture of a picture of a person in a book). Once you’ve captured the picture you can customize the face by altering the eyes, mouth, and nose to move as you talk. After customizing the picture you can record yourself talking.

Aurasma is a free app for iPads, iPhones, and  Android devices. Using Aurasma you can create augmented reality layers, Aurasma calls them “auras,” that pop-up when you scan objects with your phone or tablet. The layers that you create can include image or video files that are stored on your iPad.
