Tips on Choosing Technology Devices for Your Classroom | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it

Elaine Roberts, Ph.D's curator insight, January 22, 9:23 AM

I love the idea of having a mix of resources so teachers can tailor, em, personalize (?) the technology to the learning objectives and needs of the students. Next week I'll be working with a school district that is exposing--and TRAINING--teachers on a range of technology options (LearnPad, iPads, Chromebooks, etc.) and letting them choose what to use when. Smart. Really smart.

PROBLEM SOLVING USING SCRATCH: ICT in Practice

PROBLEM SOLVING USING SCRATCH: ICT in Practice | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it
I am aware that the computer science aspects of the new computing curriculum creates extra work for some teachers as they need to learn many unfamiliar concepts. I know this can be challenging and time consuming, but I think we are very fortunate because there is a vast range of free programming environments /apps available for teachers to use for teaching computer science elements to children. What we need to remember is that the program itself doesn’t just make children develop computational thinking, the context we use, the pedagogical approach we employ shapes the learning experience of our students.

On the next page I have shared a simple activity which can be used as a main task or as an assessment task at the end of a coding session. The aim is to support children to design solutions for a specific purpose by selecting and using correct blocks in a sequence. These activities can encourage them to think in logical steps which is the main foundation of problem solving skills and at the same time provide opportunities for peer or whole class discussions.

Using ThingLink to Support STEAM

Using ThingLink to Support STEAM | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it

STEAM is an approach to teaching that supports arts integration across the curriculum. In a STEAM classroom students construct and demonstrate understanding about core subject areas through an art form. Teachers design learning experiences that encourage students to engage in a creative process that connects an art form to one or more core subject areas, such as Science, Engineering, Technology or Math to meet objectives in all areas.

QR codes seem to be one of those technologies that sort of hang in the background but don't seem to take off for general or widespread use. I do see some interesting benefits for QR codes and this article give some great ideas for using them.  We could use more sharing from educators who are using this tool.  Maybe more people would incorporate this into their teaching strategies?

Do You Rubric? A Useful Infographic for Educators

Do You Rubric? A Useful Infographic for Educators | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it

Rubrics… You know, those scoring guides that assist teachers with objectively evaluating student work. These same tools also provide teachers with a consistent framework using specific criteria to determine if and how learning objectives are achieved and skills are mastered. On the flip side, rubrics demystify the grading process for students by clearly stating, in age-appropriate terminology, the expectations of an assignment.

Regardless of whether or not you utilize rubrics, the must-see infographic shown below offers some pretty compelling rationale for promoting and/or reinforcing the implementation of this concept into every classroom.
