Edublogs 2012 Nominations | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it

Nominations for 2012 Edublog Awards are open.

The purpose of the Edublog Awards is to "promote and demonstrate the educational values of these social media."

The nomination process supports the goal of the contest because it requires nominations via a blog post with a follow up link to that post submitted to Edublogs.

What a great way to share, discover and credit the folks whose work inspires us and contributes to our own success!

StoryToolz: Story Idea Generator and More for Authors

StoryToolz: Story Idea Generator and More for Authors | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it
Beth Dichter's curator insight, June 15, 10:13 PM

StoryToolz provides seven resources to help authors.

* The Story Idea Generator "picks a random conflict from each of the Internet Public Library's list of 7 plots, 20 plots, and 36 plots."

* Random Conflicts combines "the Internet Public Library's list of 7 plots, 20 plots, and 36 plots" and "randomly presents 10."

* Word Count Meters allows you to keep track of and share your progress.

* Readability - This tool analyzes your text. It will tell you the reading level (based on a number of different indexes); sentence information, including the number of characters, words, paragraphs and more; word usage; and sentence beginnings (type of word).

* Half Title Generator - Select from a list of beginnings and then for ends of a title and see what comes up!

* Example Word Count Meters - show actual word counts of existing projects as well as the goal

* Cliche Buster - Reviews your text and lets you know if it finds any cliches.

This tool would most likely work best with students in middle school, high school and college. Students might also use it as a tool to check their story before having a peer edit the story.

The Free Online Image Editor for All Levels: Open Pixlr

The Free Online Image Editor for All Levels: Open Pixlr | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it

Via Robin Good
Robin Good's curator insight, June 8, 5:29 AM

If I were to recommend an online image/photo editor, that is fast, flexible and that provides all of the tools and features I generally need, I wouldn't hesitate a second in recommending Pixlr.

Not only this free web-based image editor is zippy and responsive as it can get, but it offers three alternative "versions" depending on your needs and skill level.

1) The Open Pixlr Express is the one I use the most, as it offers all of the basic functionalities I generally need, such as cropping, resizing, converting and basic retouching.

2) The Open Pixlr Editor is the advanced version which integrates all of the photo retouching tools you may need, as well as image layers, filters and more.

3) For non-technical people, kids and novices the Open Pixlr-o-Matic offers a perfect solution by integrating all of the key basic functions in an attractive and much simplified interface.

There is also a free mobile version both for Android and one for iPhone/iPad.

Free to use. No regsitration required.

Tons of Classroom Examples Using Augmented Reality

Tons of Classroom Examples Using Augmented Reality | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it

Augmented reality allows someone to add another layer to an existing image.  For example, imagine holding your phone over a poster on the wall as if you were going to take a photo of that poster, and then instantly a video starts playing to offer you additional information about that particular poster.  Pretty cool, right?  The first time it happens, it seems like magic.

Label 59 : Label anything interactively

Label 59 : Label anything interactively | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it

Label 59 is a web application that lets you label anything interactively. It is ideal for creating engaging presentations that have interactive labels attached to them. These labels are hotspots on the photo and are represented by markers. You then define content for each of these markers by adding connectors, arrows, tooltips, text blocks and details window.

What you get as a result, is an impressive presentation (in Flash or HTML5) that highlights the key points on your photo when markers are clicked or when the mouse pointer hovers over them.
