Teaching & Learning Resources to Remember the Life of MLK

Teaching & Learning Resources to Remember the Life of MLK | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it
“Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” This quote epitomizes why I have always admired Martin Luther King, Jr.

As a pastor, activist, humanitarian and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement, he not only advocated for the equal treatment of our fellow man, but he also supported the fair and humane treatment of animals—a personal passion of mine as a rescuer, adopter, foster and sponsor of shelter and puppy mill dogs.

Whether you’re celebrating victory or are feeling despair in defeat, it has been an exhausting process for the citizens of this country.

But there is a silver lining in all of this turmoil… We are Americans. All of us, regardless of the vote we cast last Tuesday. So it’s time to do what we do best: Come together for the common good and make this great land we live in the best it can possibly be—not just for this generation but for many that follow.

Interactive Storytelling and Coding

Interactive Storytelling and Coding | 21st Century Technology Integration | Scoop.it
Knowing that coding is an important skill for students to learn, I knew I had to come up with ways to teach coding skills. However, I knew nothing about coding, so I needed to learn a few basics. With my new found knowledge, I came up with so many fun ideas for integrating coding into my literacy lessons. Which is why I am so happy I get to share one of the first ever coding lessons I incorporated into the literacy curriculum AND it is just in time for the Mentor Text Lessons to Warm Up Your Winter Link-Up using the book Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner.

With a myriad of tools available to teachers, it’s sometimes mind-boggling trying to identify which are the most effective. Let’s face it… Flashy, colorful, unique apps will most definitely capture the attention of your students, but is this the way we want them to experience learning? Probably not so much.

That said, I have developed a three-step process to assist the teachers in my district with locating and then selecting the apps that will be the most effective tools for the classroom.
