LinkedIn and the Growing Field of Teacher Networking - Getting Smart by Guest Author - edchat, EdTech, education, social media | 21st Century Teaching & Learning Resources | Scoop.it
Changes in how states use their budgets have forced some teachers to find alternatives for business networking. LinkedIn is more than just a social profile for your work life, it’s a chance for you to build a better career.
Linda Buckmaster's insight:

Many years ago I worked in isolation due to timetabling, never able to get to team meetings etc ... but the internet, social media etc have certainly changed things for me and many other educators to keep up, share and collaborate online.

ASCD Express 9.06 - The Assessment—Instruction Link

ASCD Express 9.06 - The Assessment—Instruction Link | 21st Century Teaching & Learning Resources | Scoop.it
Founded in 1943, ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) is an educational leadership organization dedicated to advancing best practices and policies for the success of each learner.

Via Patrice Bucci
Linda Buckmaster's insight:

Frequent formative assessments guide daily instructional decisions. Informal assessment techniques—such as probing, follow-up questions, and physical gestures—help this teacher check for understanding and decide how to modify instruction. As students work in pairs, the teacher circulates to observe and redirect, as needed. Later, the class collaboratively grades student writing samples, using oral reasoning to describe scoring decisions. Combined, the data from these formative assessments give the teacher a  picture of student progression towards summarisation.

Ryan McDonough's curator insight, July 7, 2014 8:19 AM

Self explanatory visual on the benefits of gaming as a means of learning. Outlined are the rewards, mastery, engagement, intensity, exercise, readiness, and competitiveness. These types of graphics need to be displayed in the classroom. There's always parents who are unsure of how gaming qualifies as teaching. Can't they just sit their kid in front of an iPad all day at home? Well, in the appropriate setting, with the right direction and guidance, games are certainly good for learning. Some people just don't know that from experience yet.

David Bozetarnik's curator insight, April 30, 2014 11:35 PM

Blended learning has much potential.  However, it is only PART of the solution to why ails education today.  It is not a replacement for funding.  Adequate funding, whether online of f2f, must go hand in hand.  You can't maximize the potential of education while cutting necessary $$$.
