How Evernote Is Revolutionzing My Classroom - Edudemic

How Evernote Is Revolutionzing My Classroom - Edudemic | 21st Century STEM Teaching and Learning Resources | Scoop.it
The great Evernote experiment is underway in the UK. Adam Webster details how he went all-digital with the help of iPads and Evernote.

By Adam Webster

"From 8th January – 22nd March I chose one class, my First Year class (aged 11-12) to give up using exercise books, reading books and textbooks. Instead, they would use only digital mediums that were available to them through an iPad that they were supplied with during each lesson.

"We are now at the halfway point of this test, and I wanted to reflect a little on what I have found so far."

This is the third time or so I have seen instructors give glowing reports about Evernote. One even said that the more information that a user had the better the application worked. Are any of you using this application or one similar?

Ten Steps Toward Universal Design of Online Courses

Ten Steps Toward Universal Design of Online Courses | 21st Century STEM Teaching and Learning Resources | Scoop.it

Implementing the principles of universal design in online learning means anticipating the diversity of students that may enroll in your course and planning accordingly. These ten key elements will greatly enhance the accessibility and usability of your course for students with and without disabilities.

Step 1: Develop content first, then design.
Step 2: Provide simple, consistent navigation.
Step 3: Include an accommodation statement.
Step 4: Choose CMS tools carefully.
Step 5: Model and teach good discussion board etiquette.
Step 6: Use color with care.
Step 7: Provide accessible document formats.
Step 8: Choose fonts carefully.
Step 9: Convert PowerPoint™ to accessible HTML.
Step 10: If it's auditory make it visual; if it is visual make it auditory.

DropTask Turns Your Tasks Into an Awesome Venn Diagram of Productivity

DropTask Turns Your Tasks Into an Awesome Venn Diagram of Productivity | 21st Century STEM Teaching and Learning Resources | Scoop.it

By Whitson Gordon

"Managing your tasks is a boring but necessary chore. DropTask changes the way you view your to-dos by mapping it out in a visual, drag-and-drop interface perfect for viewing the stuff you have to do, especially if you work with others.

"DropTask is incredibly intuitive, and while it can seem a little weird at first—not to mention space-inefficient—it can be pretty handy if you're managing larger projects. In fact, where it really shows its stuff is when you work with other people. If you sign your entire team up for DropTask, you can assign tasks or groups of tasks to different people with just a flick of the mouse, making it really easy to dole out responsibilities. Check out the video above to see it in action, or click the link below to try it out."

Well, it's not exactly Venn diagrams that DropTask allows you to create, but this is a very intuitive and visual way to organize tasks, especially multi-step tasks or if you, or your team, has numerous things to do. Nice free app.

STEM Interest on Rise Among High Schoolers, Report Finds | 21st Century STEM Teaching and Learning Resources | Scoop.it
Veteran Education Week reporters Catherine Gewertz and Erik Robelen bring you news and analysis of issues at the core of classroom learning.
Rob Hatfield, M.Ed.'s insight:

From the study:

"Nearly 28 percent—roughly 1 million freshmen—declare an interest in STEM each year, but more than half of them, 57 percent, lose that interest by the time they graduate, the report says. The authors suggest this is a phenomenon worth careful attention, as it's a lot easier "to maintain interest than to create new interest where it is not present."

Founded in 1943, ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) is an educational leadership organization dedicated to advancing best practices and policies for the success of each learner.

It's what Judy Willis (2010) calls "individualized achievable challenge": the brain's drive to a larger goal, prodded along by a chemical feedback system that releases dopamine with each small success. Key to triggering this process is the chance to make an explicit prediction, followed by explicit, immediate feedback....Read more...

The traditional educational enviroment is no longer tradtional...Universities in Asia have started to adjust to this aspect. A four year education was not only what you learned for your future career but how to get along with other people from other cultures. Therefore, schools will have to rethink all aspects of the "brick and Mortar" schools.
