Vermont helps students with personalized learning plans

Vermont helps students with personalized learning plans | 21st Century STEM Resources | Scoop.it
HINESBURG -- Abby Trombley wasn’t feeling challenged in school.

"The key to personalized learning plans is to taking the time to sit down with the students and ask where you want to go and figure out the best way to get there," she said. "We have the same high ambitions for all of you but we know you have to walk different paths to get there."

Rob Hatfield, M.Ed.'s insight:

This is a high school example of an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). I have used and developed my own ILP a long time ago. When I first started my master's degree and now current PhD studies, I developed my ILP.

I remember writing and informing my PhD adviser that the current PhD program does not fit with my Individual Learning Plan.

Everyone must take charge of their own learning and not be afraid to change, modify or move from a program that doesn't fit your needs. You’re paying for it, so you have the ultimate say.Thank goodness, there is always another PhD program out there to choose from and everyone should remember there is always another choice.

Program managers should remember that the learners are the true end users of the learning experiences and the reason they have a job.

Making waves: In the hunt for invisibility, other benefits seen

Making waves: In the hunt for invisibility, other benefits seen | 21st Century STEM Resources | Scoop.it

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - A new way of assembling things, called metamaterials, may in the not too distant future help to protect a building from earthquakes by bending seismic waves around it. Similarly, tsunami waves could be bent around towns, and soundwaves bent around a room to make it soundproof
