Marian Royal Vigil's insight:

This is not outstanding, but does a pretty good job of explaining how to use Google Slides in the research process.  It would be good for teachers to view.  I don't think it's polished enough to use with students.

Psychologists Find a Surprising Thing Happens to Kids Who Read Harry Potter

Psychologists Find a Surprising Thing Happens to Kids Who Read Harry Potter | 21st Century School Libraries | Scoop.it

Harry Potter's greatest feat might not have been defeating Voldemort, but teaching young people around the world to battle prejudice. At least that's the finding of a new paper in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology, which claims reading the Harry Potter series significantly improved young peoples' perception of stigmatized groups like immigrants, homosexuals or refugees.

Via Josué Cardona

This is interesting research.  I think it probably holds true for any literature that focuses the awareness on prejudice and discrimination, not just for Harry Potter.  I think more studies on this effect would be useful.

Curation as a tool for teaching and learning

What is curation anyway, and how can it be used as a tool for student and teacher learning? This essay will investigate what curation is and the different contexts it is used in. Why is it important; who are the curators, what motivates them and what makes a great curator? What processes and tools are used for curation and what digital literacies are required for successful curation? It will conclude with an investigation into ways teachers can use curation both with and for their students and as a tool for their own professional learning and a brief look at some curation tools.

Bonnie Burns's curator insight, July 9, 2014 11:38 AM

Here’s how the hoax works: a cybercriminal created a fake profile with the user name “Verified Page.” Their profile picture was the Facebook verified page symbol, so when the cybercriminal sent a message from this profile to Freshome, they thought that Facebook was finally contacting them to verify their company Facebook page. However, the hoaxer instead took control of the magazine’s page and unpublished it.
